So long story short- Alot of New Braunfels lost power last night from 2:30 to 6:00 in the morning yesterday. I wanted to share how I got by with what I had available as it was real cheap and easy to do. First off I have done the whole dumping a cup of water back into the tank to help oxygenate it. This has worked well for me before as I had a outage for 4 hours a couple months back but this time I decided to put some stuff together I had laying around. I used a power inverter I had laying around that plugged into a cigarette lighter. I then ran an extension cord into the off from the inverter(which was in my car). That was plugged into one koralia 4 near the middle of my tank pretty much facing the surface of the water. This kept all the water on the surface of my tank moving and oxygenating. My small battery in my car lasted about 2 hours. I just turned the key to accessories, and turned the radio off. This way the inverter was pretty much the only thing running off the battery. So the cost of keeping my tank running was a little $45 inverter which always comes in handy on the road and the price of an extension cord.
I still didnt sleep too much this time around but that was because I was unsure how long my battery would last. Next time I will feel pretty comfortable.
PS- If you live in NB I would strongly recommend a backup plan as we have had three major(2-4 hours) outages in the year we have been here with multiple minor(30 minutes or less) outages.
