Cyano outbreak

Okay,

Cyano sucks!!!

That being said, not only has my maroon blanket of gently waving arms of cyano slime receded from being a showcase item in my display, but now there is only one or two spots where it lingers on.

And that is slowly shrinking.

Here's how I did it...


I have no idea.


Only two changes come to mind. The wavemaker is on and the autotopoff is functioning well.

I also stopped dosing kalk once a day, mixed surry and all.... Now I have a charging bucket that dilutes the tipoff with the kalk clear water that I hand mix once a day or so.

Frag tank is red though...

Red Slime Remover, lower your water level in your sump. Turn your skimmer off. On day two, turn your skimmer back on with the air valve wide open, and wet skim about 4 cups of skimmate. Day 3 no cyano.

I get too wordy sometimes. My cyano is beating a hasty retreat.

It's redeploying.

It's in retrograde.

It's leaving.

It's almost gone.


Not too worried about the frag tank yet, but I will do the RSR should that bece an issue.

I hate those red slime removers they tend to be harsh on corals ... on a fowler tank sure why not but a reef no way

Yeah stuff like the RSR always seem too easy. There's got to be a catch. Or it doesn't work long run. If it does work it's going to affect something else. It's never as easy as just one super targeted treatment that kills off only one thing and doesn't do anything to anything else.

On a red slime note.. I noticed my sailfin tang, two different times today, picking at my red slime "experiment". I was not able to get close to the tank as she always swims over to me if I do that but could definately see her picking at it. Tomorrow I am going to try and mix it in with their food to see if they will actually eat it. One experiment turns into two...

I thought I had posted this earlier, the first experiment was to see if I took my phosban offline if the red slime would return and it did. I have now let it grow and am planning to reintroduce the phosban. Although the cyano seems to have retreated some.

as for the RSR i used it in my tank with my corcea clam, all my fish and corals, yellow polyps, mushrooms, zoos, candy cane, mainly softies and LPS and no ill effects to any of it. HOWEVER make sure you turn your skimmer off before you treat or your gonna fill your cup quickly. As for SPS i don't know if it will affect these
