This is for the MP40 owners!

I currently have two MP40's. One on each side of my tank. I just ordered a third. I'm not sure where to put the third. Should I just have two on one side and one on the other or should I just put all three on one side? I have a 6' tank that's 2' at its widest. It seems that if I put two on one side, the flow would be too uneven. Any thoughts?

is it the regular gen 2 or the new ES?
The ES has a nutrient export mode for mounting the vortech on 3 sides where it coordinates them in 3 different ways
If it's the reg gen 2 pumps and you go with lagoon mode you will notice that the anti sync in lagoon mode creates a strong side on the master side and a weaker current on the anti sync side.
If you use that mode with 3 vortechs I would put the master on one side and the 2 slaves on the other side and it should be pretty even.

(wow rereading my post -just a couple of years ago this would have sounded like total gibberish to me! lol)

They're all ES wireless. I thought about putting one on the back but I think it would be overkill and would also be hard to get too. :P

Hmm, I'll have to think about it. I guess having all three on one side would not be a good idea.

I think 3 on one side on a 6 foot tank would only make sense if you wanted a really strong current on one side and maybe some kind of low flow thing on the other.
Really you got 3 why not get a 4th one for a nice standing wave!?

LOL! That was my plan and I'll probably do it at some point. However, the place I bought it from had an older MP10 for $150 that I couldn't pass up. That'll be going on the frag tank once it's set up. They haven't shipped yet so there's still time to order another one. God, my Wife is going to kill me. :/

On that note, whats the best way to get a Wife addicted to reefing? If I could get her addicted, I would have a much easier time justifying expensive "water movers".

Ramsey, I think it'll depend on what mode you use the most. I've seen a large tank w/4 mp40's on one side, but he was using it for a standing wave. For reef crest or lagoon, I'd put the 3rd in the back panel and dial it down a bit more than the others.

Check with Kristy. It's her area of expertise. She's working on a Spouse Training Manual. I plan to buy a copy as soon as it comes out.

Cheri used to hate my tanks and stated several times that if she could find the guy who gave me my first SW tank, she'd kill him...lol. It really is nice having a hobby that we both love...

That seems like a lot of flow for a non sps tank. But if it were my tank I'd mount one dead center on one payne and the other two staggered on the other payne.

I have a couple SPS and plan on adding more but it will likely stay mostly LPS. Why I'm adding more flow is because there is still a couple if very low flow spots in a couple due to the rock work I have. I'm not really wanting to increase my GPH, but instead just have more coverage. I think I've made up my mind and I'm going to place it on the back of the tank.
