I just bought a 40g breeder and a 20g long. I want to add an overflow and use the 20g as a sump. Any ideas on where I can get one? I don't mind if it's a hang on type as long as it works well.
I'll also need to turn the 20g into a DIY sump but I don't think that part should be too bad.
Any help in turning this into the ultimate frag tank would be nice!

if it were me, i would drill the 40 breeder and do an internal overflow.

That's what I'd like to do. Finding an overflow is the problem. Ideally, I would like to have a center over flow and have both the exit and return pipe in it. Obviously, the return pipe would need to go through it or over it.

So how hard would it be to make an overflow box out of acrylic? It seems like it would be pretty easy but they charge an arm and a leg for them online. I checked on my tank and it doesn't have a tempered bottom so I can get it drilled.

well so long as you arent wanting anything spectacular should be pretty easy. just drill 2 holes, put bulkheads in and then acrylic box around it. I would recommend 1/4 inch plexi though, which is more expensive but much more rigid. I think it would be easy enough to do though

Yeah, it doesn't have to be super fancy but I don't want it to be completely ghetto either. My goal with this is to do as much of it myself as possible and to do it cheaply. I think the only thing I'd have to pay for is getting the holes drilled which would be $50.

I'd prefer to drill the bottom of the tank but their kits are pretty cool and would save me some cash. I may end up going this route.

They have some cool stuff. Wish their videos were HD though or better quality.

This is awesome! I am going ot be posting a DIY sump and drilled tank thread pretty soon. I just put one together this past weekend for a frag/quarantine/hospital tank. I made a 15 gallon tank into my sump I put in 3 chambers for mechanical filtration, fuge, live rock and a chamber for the mag 3. I had 1 hold drilled in the tank and used a 1" elbow for the overflow. The way I configured it its pretty quiet. I used plastic sprinkler fittings from HD to put the return together. I used them because it fits the pump perfectly all parts screw together and they are wither dark grey or black. Its a very simple design and it works without flaw.

Yeah, I'll most likely go with them since it would save me some money and still look good. Also, I think I may pick up another 20g long for ATO water. Since I'm gonna make the stand myself, I can make it with two shelfs, one for the sump and one for water storage. I know with a 250w MH light hanging above it, water is gonna evaporate like crazy.
