Without getting into details, it's amazing what some men will do to get back at women. I know something was done because my mom's tank is the oldest and healthiest tank in the house. It's awful fishy that one day the tank is fine and the next day almost nothing survived, especially after a huge fight and the Sheriff was involved. Shrooms, LPS, Kenyi trees, even the bristtleworms and copepods are all gone. I did manage to save one GSM and put her in my BC 29. Sadly she had to watch her mate die. Not sure if she'll make it yet or not. I changed the entire amount of water and rinsed everything off in RODI water. I've also removed every bit of death I could. I put two Sargent Major damsels in there to give me an idea of the water conditions and one already passed. I'm doing another 5 gallon water change as I type this. My question is should we just let the tank dry out or should I keep fighting with water changes? Oh, I have no idea what was put in and didn't test the water because I was trying to save everything and was going to do a water change any way. Only things left in the tank are a few zoas and the palys the clowns used to host and none look good.

hate hearing about this kind of stuff. you are going to have to do some water tests and possibly add some of that filter pad that removes metals and toxins - i am sure karin will chime in with the name of it (i never can remember)

That's terrible. Hopefully the fish murderer (if that's what it was) is gone for good and won't come back

PolyFilter :)
You beat me to it Karin. As Ace said, multiple large water changes, lots of carbon, and multiple polyfilters. On a side note, the polyfilter may help you determine what was added to the tank depending on the color change of the pad.
And yes, we men can be real dogs sometimes. Sorry this happened.

Yeah, he's gone. A long overdue divorce is now in the works. It's really sad because my mom was so proud of her tank and the big "man" took it out on the fish instead of someone who could fight back. Obviously I wasn't here because I'd probably be in jail as we speak. So are you telling me to keep fighting? Considering even the copes and worms perished I'm wondering if the bacteria is still alive. I'd assume the tank is going to go through all the cycles again.

If everything is gone I'd probably start over if it was me. You don't know what is in it so it's tough to know if you ever get it completely out, know what I mean?

Take what you can out living or dead and start with a new batch of water and like Karin and Corey said use lots of polyfilter, and carbon for a while and basically start it all over from new. Im sorry this happened! This is terrible! What kinds of corals and fish did she have in the tank? Maybe when she is ready I can donate a frag or 2 for a fresh start. Let me know.

Humans- Male or Female are both capable of disgusting behaviors. History has taught us this.
Water changes is the key here. Hopefully what ever was used has not leached into the rock and sand to far as it can be hard to remove toxins from them with just water changes.
Good Luck!

I am so sorry to hear this. I would keep with water changes and the polyfiber. My guess would be bleach. That is what I have heard being put in a tank 90% of the times i have heard of something like this happening, its just a common chemical everybody has and thinks will kill fish apparently...(unfortunatley way too much)
I would also suggest to add some form of dechlorinator such as prime as this will help to remove the bleach, if that is what it is. I know you said you changed all the water and used RO/DI but still it wont harm anything unless you way way over dose. And household beach is hypochloride ie oxygen and chlorine molecules, put in dechlorinator and it works like a charm, removes the chlorine in the bleach only leaving oxygen

Thanks everyone. I've pulled out everything I think might live. She doesn't have much left but I think I managed to save her GSM clown. I'm hoping the zoas will pull through. The palys seemed to far gone so I'm letting the die/dry outside. I'm going to keep doing water changes and monitor water parameters.
List of the dead:
Kryptonite Candy Canes
Frogspwan
Kenya trees
Various mushrooms
One GSM
Three peppermint shrimp
Palys
Even the coraline seems to be dieing
Too bad someone can't be made to pay for their actions.

That's so childish! Hurting animals is a sign of a sicko. Glad your mom is moving on.

I have an extra piece of Krypto candy cane that I can toss into the mix to get your mom back on her feet. Might have something else interesting as well, but aside from what everyone else is tossing in I think the Krypto is the only one that hasn't been mentioned.
Really childish of the dude to do that. Actually, he's not a dude... I researve that for those folks out there that are the cat's pajamas, of which this guy obviously is not.
Anything else you need just holler.

Childish is not the term in my head right now! My mom told me to pull everything out and shut it down. I can tell she's upset, like she doesn't already have enough to worry about with lawyers and getting the divorce ball rolling. I told her not to give up, she still has a clown we can put back in there and if the zoas don't make it I have the colonies they came from still. I appreciate everyone that's willing to donate and she does too. I won't let her give up and definitely won't let him win by shutting down the tank. I'm going to keep it running and keep changing the water till it no longer seems like a death trap. Since everything seems to continue to die, coraline and the little critters, I'm positive it was poisoned. I may break it down and rinse the sand, tank and all filtration in the back. My question is how or what to do to get the LR clean again.

I would put the LR in a bucket and test the PH. There was probably a nasty spike and I am sure that needs to ride out first. Carbon Carbon Carbon. Try to strip the water out of everything, and just keep changing the water. GFO would probably be a good thing too.

Yeah, I'm gonna pull the LR, and the rest of the tank. The little critters keep going through their death throws in the display and I've seen enough. I've already taken the chance and moved all live stock into one of my 3 small tanks hours ago. I'm gonna break down and clean everything. My plan is to scrub everything spotless in the tank and remove all LR and power wash it, then begin purging it by leaving it in a bucket with the hose running so the water is always moving. We have well water out here so chlorine isn't a problem and there is a RO system at the well head. I'll do that for a few days then finish with RODI water. Today I'll clean the sand, tank and parts in the chambers to get it back up and cycling. I figure a week on the LR and then we'll begin again. We may have lost the battle but we will win the war! Thanks for all the help and offers, my mom was surprised when I told her.

Sorry about the troubles.
Note: you'll be surprised at what can live with just a sliver of flesh. I have had entire zoa/paly colonies die off and with just a itty bitty flesh mark; an entire colony rise up again. Seriously.
I'd personally not discard any corals and just keep doing small water changes every day until this passes...along with carbon. If starting over is feasible, I'd do that instead and keep the corals in a separate temp tank.
Good luck.

Yeah, I broke everything down and cleaned it. I pulled the corals I thought would live and put them in my tanks. Her GSM is doing good and I had her cleaner shrimp in one of my tanks already because I thought the GSM pair were trying to breed. Between my brother in law and I we can replace everything she had except the frogspawn and Kryptonite candy canes. I'm still curing the LR and the tank has sand and is back up and running. Now just to let it cycle, again. Good news is she got rid of her aptasia problem! Whatever was in there killed everything off that I didn't pull.

Take all of your rock and sand out, and put them in buckets outside. Do a complete water change as often as you can remember to do so, with hose water. I'd do this a couple of times a day for 2 weeks.
BTW, my daughter's nano went thru this at school. Someone thought a beer = drunk fish, might be funny. I ended up tossing everything. It was just easier.

Thanks Miziny. I can't wait to reaquascape this tank. I have a lot that I'm going to put in there. I had some pieces that I was thinking about putting up for trade and could use the room in my tanks. In fact I have baby shrooms popping up every where that are needing a home. Thanks for all the offers and I may take some of you up on them when the tank is ready. Oh, and the female GSM is doing great in my 29. I was worried about her for a while. I really think Bill's suggestion was right. The guy was wasted that night and could have easily poured some beer in there.
