When are you looking to get the rockscaping done? If the timing worked out, Mike and I could probably help. I would want you to look at our tank and let us know if you like my style of rockwork first.

honestly right now I'm not sure, exactly when, I'm going to do all the arrangements that are needed to hopefully get the light and water turned on asap on my new house, and I should be getting my new tank next week, but not sure when I'm going to be able to transfer everything from one tank to another, heres my number and maybe you can call me and invite you to my apt so you can see what I mean about me sucking at this lol 210-324-2734 and I'm ivan by the way thank you

Ivan,
I'm going to be reworking my tank in the near future also. I'm like you and have never been 100% happy with my tank's layout. Try looking through the member's online albums on this site and searching google images to get an overall look you want to go for, ie brick wall or island style. That's where I got started on the design phase.
Here's what I've done:
1) Draw top down and side view sketches on grid paper to 1/6 scale.
This is what I'll be doing in the next few weeks:
2) Pull all live rock and scrub and wash each rock in multiple salt water buckets to remove built up organics
3) Lay a tarp out and arrange the rock on top of that to match my sketches and add any new ideas
4) Transfer each piece back to the tank in the desired spot
I'm just trying to go somewhat simple and not do any drilling, or using any rods or cement. Just get them lay like I want them and let gravity do the rest. You may be doing something more elaborate.
BTW, you'll love Mike and Kristy's main tank.

Look up the golden ratio for aquariums..... That's what I did with mine, of course it's not as GREAT as I would hope for, but it looks pretty good I think.

Wow that looks beutifull, i go scuba diving a lot and that looks a lot like an underwater cave.see i just want to have enough space to get more exotic tangs, and mainly want to be able to put coral whereever i want, right now obviously dont have much space its only a 90 or 80 gallon bowfront but im going up 100 gallons having up to 2 feet of space to work with so im thinking about just transferring everything i have right now, to the new aquarium, and just slowly start adding more rock, so my levels dont go all haywire, so i guess im trying to say that im trying to get something done to wich more can be added on to later in the future, i was an architect major before so i was thinking about using everything on sketchup but i guess time will tell, thanks for the advice will do the drawings like you recommended thanks

Erik that is a superb aquascape. So if I read this right your mushroom rock is your focal point? Probably located at around 27" from the left?

The large 75lb rock with the corky finger behind it and the duncans on it are the focal point. The mushroom rock is to the left and behind it. The balanced plate on the 75#er has four points. The Duncans, and to of the plate rock points line up exactly on the focal line, which is 31 inches or so, I forget. It's an 8' tank so whatever than works out to. I walked Sophia out there when I was done and covered her eyes. I got her far enough away where she could easily see the whole tank. I centered her in relation to the tank and told her that when I uncovered her eyes I wated her to show me the first thing she looked at. It was the Duncans. I was elated. :D

Oh and the mushroom rock REALLY looks like a mushroom, you just cant tell because of the rocks in front of it. If I only had about 3 more feet!

Would it be helpful if we all posted pictures to help give you ideas instead? My wife help me with mine and I love the open center look with LOTS of caves inside of the structures. You have see it a picture doesn't do it justice, it's much more airy and open than it looks in the picture. Your welcome to come over and take a look. BTW Erik that looks awesome!!
