I have been reading up on vodka and sugar dosing which is suppose to reduce nitrates and posphates while increasing the good bacteria in the system while killing the bad. This in return increases color and health of coral. Heres some articles I found:

Article on Vodka Dosing (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php)
So my question who has done it and what was your results?

I looked into it but it seemed too tedious and risky to me so I settled for solid vodka dosing where the carbon source (in pellet form) stays in a reactor and doesn't go into the tank.

Never thought about getting vodka pellets, didn't even knew they made that stuff. How were the results after starting it? Do you keep them in there all the time or do you cycle it?
I have been thinking alot about it but it does seem tedious.I think you only do it for a couple month period until you get the bacterial bloom then you start to cut back... need to read up more about it before attempting.

It's just called solid vodka dosing. It's actually carbon polymer pellets. Still based on the carbon/bacteria method but not vodka related.
Do a search on ReefCentral for NP BioPellets and you should be able to find a huge monster thread.
At first results were so/so. Then I got the right reactor and now the pellets tumble just right (just the perfect flow) and it seems to really be working much better now. :)

Yeah I heard it takes quite a while for it to kick in but once it does its like night and day... if you do it right. Glad to hear its working for you. What type of reactor do you use?
Definitely going to look at the thread tonight. Might be easier just to do it that way rather than dosing every day or sometimes twice a day.

Nextreef. It's the best reactor I have used. They make one especially for pellet media and it gets the flow just perfect.
