Ideas on how to reduce heat in an aquapod 24?

I leave the canopy door open all the time and only run the lights about 6-7 hours a day, and I still can't keep the temperature from reaching almost 84 degrees during the day. A/C in the house is set to 75 degrees. I haven't had to use the heater yet so its unplugged. Is my only option to remove the hood and buy some kind of external lighting? I like the LED stuff but $500 is way more than I can afford. I'm not sure external MH lights will keep the heat down....Thoughts?

Try a cooling fan, they have helped alot for me...but you will have to add RO alot more.

You mean like a regular fan blowing air across the aquarium? No way I could fit any fans under the canopy...

I would add one to the hood. I was able to do alot with my bc14. Just replacing the factor fans with better ones will help pull out alot of the heat from the bulbs. You could add a small one over the filtration in the back. Just some ideas.

I pulled the front flap off and put 2 small computer fans. One would blow in n the other would pull air out. Sometimes it would cool it to much. Not very nice to look at but it worked great.

I don't know about your setup but...

I have a 12" oscillating fan, from WalMart, next to my tank. It is only a $10-15 solution to heat problems in the tank but causes quite a bit of evaporation.

I would really look into getting a good chiller. That way you can keep the temp constant within 1 to 2 degrees of your set temp. That way you could also upgrade to MH lighting if you want to without any problems.

You have a sump? I have a wally world fan under my tank-top (lol) and also have one blowing across my sump. Do you have a controller? They are great to have because most of them you can configure to turn off your halides at a specific temp. My ACjr lets me even assign a waiting time for the lights to come back on. I use a ghetto chiller; milk jugs with frozen water in them. it makes a difference on a 200g, so it should make one on yours! You should be able to find a water bottle to fit in the back chamber, maybe a small fiji water bottle? It should be of major benefit.

Are the lights whats causing the heat? I would look into the source of the problem first. Sounds to me like it's not the lights since you're only running them 6 hours a day but the temperature is staying high. Maybe it's the pump?

I also use a small wally-world fan that I hung in my stand and pointed it over the sump. It comes on when my MH come on. I have 2 x 250w MH over a 144g and inside a canopy. I never go over 80 on the tank but we do keep our AC in the house at 73-74 F.

Like Ramsey mentioned...check your pumps. Also, is your AC cooling that area of the house. We literally have a couple of dead areas in our house that I would not consider putting a tank. Ok, not dead areas but hotter than normal areas.

If they are the stock PC lights, then yes, they get hot. The new shorty T5s would be a long term answer, and keeping your house cool enough during the summertime is a must without a chiller. I am not sure if people are running external return pumps on nanos or not, but its worth googling...
