I have had my 150g tank up and running since december of 2006. I have one clownfish in this tank, two anemones, CUC, 5 inch deep sand bed, carbon filtration, refugium full of macro algae and it has mangroves. I have just bought 4 new fish and people are telling me on a different forum. That adding 4 small (sizes 1.5"-3") fish all at once to my established tank, could cause an ammonia spike and kill all of my fish. LOL am I the only one that thinks this is complete bull?

I would think that's a pretty big exaggeration. If you had the tank setup that long and since it's big, I wouldn't think ammonia would be a problem at all. Sounds fishy to me (no pun intended).

an ammonia spike is likely. It will happen, however in my opinion i dont see it even being registerable on a test unless you hit it just right. Much less high enough to risk fish loss with the setup that you listed. However there will always be an ammonia increase of some amount even if micro when adding new fish. This is because even when they breath they produce ammonia as a side effect. When adding a new fish they are stressed so they breath more... You get the picture. However to me its highly unlikely that this addition to your listed setup will have any noticiable effects.

Thanks, I agree, fishy LOL. I have seen people add several chromis at once and it didn't cause them any problems.

150G + fuge + well established tank + 4 small fish = everything will be a.o.k.

Just curious, has anyone on MAAST had all their fish die, from adding more than two fish at once?

I had a helfrichi die within 4 hours after adding him. He got eaten.

I have a 180G and typically add fish in groups of 4. When I added tangs I did it three tags plus other fish.

Unless you are on ReefCentral, I would not waste time on any other site than MAAST. (Speaking of which... why is activity so low here now? )

I added a pair of clowns to a 44 with no ill effect so I am sure 4 to a 150 will be no problem.
