I am getting ready to move the 125g tank and will have to empty it temporarily for that. I will also need to make lots of fresh SW for the 215g.
I am thinking of buying some large garbage cans for this. Are there any brands or models that are particularly well suited (different materials?) for this or any places that sell them especially cheap?

davethebarrelman has alot of the 65g used food grade plastic barrels.Just take them to the car wash and high pressure wash them real good. Let them sit over night with water and vinegar before uses. It cost $25 a barrel.

Hadn't thought of those. My feed store carries them for like 15 bucks a piece (small perk of living in the sticks ;) )
Wheels would have been nice though...

Go to Home Depot and get some 32 gallon Rubbermaid Brute Trash cans. They use FDA approved resins for food storage in restaraunts. I only mention this because that means they do not leach out harmful chemicals or toxins. They are clean, sturdy and work great!

I have 2 of the 30gal rubbermaids you can use too. I'm about to buy a water container off craigslist for $125 that holds 330gal of water so I can have a continuously ready amount. May be overkill, but would be nice to have in event of emergency or someone needs some on a whim to help out. Just search craigslist for "water container"

Karin I also have a 100 gal. rubbermaid tub you can borrow. I have a rio pump with 50' of 3/4" vinyl tubing you can borrow to move your water around.

Karin,
Another vote for the Brute trash cans with wheels now that you will have a big tank. They make water changes so much easier!
We have three (one 42g and two 32g). The third one (32g) was a gift so we share that good fortune by listing it in the equipment library for temporary loan if someone should need it...

Thanks. I decided to buy a 44g Brute to keep and borrow alton's 100g over the weekend :)

Karin, you should get this...even comes with built in circulation and you wouldn't have to make water often. :)

Ah Teeb. I have to have locks on my doors to keep the kids out of my sump! With this I would have to have some kind of major containment system to keep them out of my water storage container! ;)
