Karin,
Steve used this on the closed loop system under his 280g and it worked great. You can also put this in the oven @150 degrees for a few minutes and bend it anyway you desire and then it cools off exactly where you put it. It glues well in slip joints. Steve has been trying to teach me as much as possible, just in case.

Yeah, like Mrs. Byrd said, heat it up first to shape it.

I use 1" spa flex on my chiller and then have it slip over 3/4" regular pvc. Then I glued them together w/Rain or Shine pvc cement. It's great for trying to avoid sharp bends to help reduce noise and microbubbles.

Hm baking it. Guess I envisioned it more flexible than it really is! I figured it would be more hose-like
So does it fit inside a slip joint or does it go around it?

It's pretty stiff stuff, but it does have some flexibility. It's mainly that it tries to retain the loop shape that you see in the MarineDepot pic. Heating it up just makes it a little easier to work with.

I set mine up so I can slip the flex hose over the fitting. Then I glued it w/pvc cement and added a good quality hose clamp to be 100% safe.

Okay I totally get it now. I need to stop thinking of it as 'hose' and just plan as if it were regular PVC pipe.
Do you think PVC cement is different from the purple primer and clear goop combo we used to lay a waterline to the barn?

Technically, you're supposed to use purple primer and then pvc cement, but I skip the primer. And yeah, it's technically a slip fitting. Barbed fittings worked better on the vinyl hose. The spa flex is a little too stiff for barbed fittings.

I used a different glue I purchased from a pool store - Oatey's glue for flexible PVC. It is light blue in color and does not need primer.

I just lent my can to RayAllen since I used very little. I don't want it to go to waste. If you didn't live so far, I would offer it to you as well, but it might just cost you the $15 in gas to come pick it up. :)

lol. Thanks
I just found a chart at FlexPVC that shows what glue would work with spa pvc so that gives me some options:

Any of the Blue PVC glues will work .Some times they are called Rain or shine or wet glue .You have to work fast with them as the set fast.

Same stuff, Just make sure its pvc glue not cpvc glue. I personally don't even use primer because of how low of preassure the line will be holding( and you don't have to worry about makeing a mess). Blue glue is nice, it cures wet and is nice and thick.
