What's the best way? In all seriousness, I have a powder brown that I want to get out of my tank (quickly). I'm currently trying to trap him with a DIY fish trap. He has picked on his tank mate. If I can't catch him, I want him dead. Seriously, I'm ****ed.

Kevin, I'm gonna try the trap for a little while. I may call you tomorrow. He seems interested in the food inside but hasn't gone in the hole. I appreciate the offer.

I thought about the tiny hook method but I wouldn't want to catch my other tang or anything else. I may try that this afternoon if I still haven't got him.

when I ahd a tang it took me almost a whole day to catch it - sitting beside the tank with my arm in the water holding a net and not moving while putting tons of food in front of the net.
It made me decide to never get another tang again. Only slow moving critters. While I was sitting there I also considered the tiny harpoon method.

On a good note though, I caught my mystery wrasse and put him in another tank before the a-hole brown tang could do any major damage. He's stressed but I think he may be alright.

I was worried about my yellow being the aggressive one but the only fish he's been aggressive towards is the powder brown (that includes two other tangs!). Guess I should have taken it as a sign. Also, the PB got stuck between my trap and a rock and the yellow smacked him around a little. That made me happy. :P

Yes, a tiny harpoon is what I need! I'll even go for a large one at this point. "Man the harpoons!"

I would say you could use my flies(fly fishing but dont think I have my stuff here). I was lucky I guess as my tangs are like dogs. They pretty much all eat out of my hand so they would come to the top and I would scoop them out real fast. My small blue hippo did get a little tricky as he could fit anywhere and got spooked when all the other tangs started to disapear lol. My flametail blenny was a different story, I had to crack open his rock to get him out(although I wouldnt recommend this). Give me a shout tomorrow if you cant get him, I should be back here by about 5-6 depending on overtime.

I do blame him/her. He has betrayed my trust. He/she looked all friendly and nice in the tank at the LFS. Then I put him/her in my tank and it manifested it's true self which is the spawn of satan. It just goes to show you, never trust a tang.

Cool, I'll let you know. I would like to find a good home for it but please know that this guy is very aggressive towards other tank members. Not just other tangs.

one thing that has worked for me is persistant chasing of the tang with a hand until it gets tired and hides in a rock. this can take up to an hour or more, and is much less frustrating with something relaxing to drink  at that point, you may be able to net it more easily.

i dont reccommend this next part, but this is how i do it....

at the point where it gets tired and wedges itself into the rock, slowly grabbing with your had sometimes works better than trying to get a net in the rocks. just watch out, surgeonfish(tangs) are called that for a reason and can give a pretty good slice with that tail barb...

mini toothpick harpoon. Jack has the schematic for this.

Ace's trap worked well for me recently with a large cleaner wrasse. It did take about a week though. Everyday I baited it and the fish slowly got more comfortable around it and once they didn't think of it as a threat they all would swim in and out of it during feeding. I anchored the fishing line to the trap door with my mag float so all I had to do was realease the mag float and down the door came.

Success! I just caught him! I also caught a damsel I've been wanting to get out as well. I used an empty two liter bottle to make the trap.
