Has any one had sucess in keeping Staghorn crabs ? wat is there feeding habbits do they need a large area on the sand bed ?

these things are really cool, I just saw them at Fish Gallery in Houston, dont know much about them, just that if the "live" coral shell dies, the crab will die too....but, they are some really magnificent creatures!

Wow thats cool. Is it a hermit with the coral attached? or a regular crab? Nature never ceases to amaze me.

Where did you get your info from?

I have seen the staghorn hermit move to a regular snail shell and back and seen them continue living in staghorn skeleton when the coral had died.

As far as eating habits, they are scavengers.

A large sand bed only if you don't want them getting 'hung' up on other structures. Sometimes their staghorn will get caught but they are pretty good at getting out of those situations.

I saw that one too. I was there when someone bought it. I was very tempted to take it home. But, I wanted to research first before an impulse buy.
