Hi Kristy,

Just an FYI, the Austin Reef Club is having a Port A trip that weekend. Not all the ARC group is going, but it might impact the tank tour.

I have a 58g SPS/chalice dominated tank. Hope yall can stop by.

wait a second. the austin reef club is having a port a trip that weekend. this site has the same collection trip a month after? what a colossal blunder. coordination?

The ARC one was sort of a spontaneous thing. A few of us have birthdays around that weekend and it just kinda blossomed. It's very low key too, no speakers, BBQ etc. Although we did steal the bonfire and collecting ideas!

I think some of us are planning on attending the MAAST trip also, although I wont be. :(

Hi Robb,
Really appreciate the updates. I make it a habit of checking the Austin meeting dates for any conflicts when I schedule an event, but had failed to see the Collection trip discussion (being a more spontaneous get-together, it's in the lounge) when I chose which weekend to do the tank tours. So that was entirely my goof.

At first I was considering re-scheduling this event for later in the summer, but I have had a few good responses of folks who would like to be included so it looks like we have enough interest to have a great day in spite of some of the key Austin folks being at the coast. We did four tanks at the Corpus Christi tank tour and afterwards agreed it was "just right" to give each one enough time not be too rushed and still have the attention span for the next tank.

Also, stay tuned for more details about the July Port A collection trip to be sent your way, updates both here and on ARC. Always appreciate the collaborative support!

I don't see how we could mandate when other clubs have their spontaneous get togethers no matter how similar they might be to ours. Seems like Kristy plans her events weeks/months in advance. How would she be able to control if another club decides to do something similar on short notice?

I read that thread on ARC a few weeks back. There were a couple MAAST members that are going on this trip as well. If anyone is interested here is a link:

Ummm... obviously Clint and I have differing opinions on the phrase "isn't much to look at." :)

Looking forward to seeing yours too, Rvela. Also heard from a couple others by pm. Will start working on a tentative schedule, so let me know if anyone else is thinking of jumping in. Looks to be a nice afternoon.

Sounds fun and I loved the CC tank tour so looking forward to this one. Clint dont worry as my tank isnt what it was in its prime. Another interesting note is that everytime I hear that the people usually have extraordinary tanks.

I believe there is a misunderstanding or interruption of my comment. One could not expect to control or mandate the events of similar clubs regardless of agenda. Am certain any club would have issues with such should it be implied or expressed. My comment was to highlight a point. That point being that this web site shares the same agenda as others in the same state. Communication between these sites for the planning of events, particularly those that have potential to draw members from various clubs around the state to a single local, should be routine. To avoid this scenario. Observation for progression.

point taken. we do actually try to plan large events around other large events in the state. i would still like to see more cooperation amongst the different reefers in the state.

I agree to the above. However, when I read the entire post on ARC (I will call them by their real name and not "the other club") it appeared that those who started the trip were not able to make it to our collection trip due to other obligations. I believe there are some from ARC that are still planning on attending our collection trip. I can't speak for the October trip being planned on there though.

I didn't want any misunderstandings or animosity between ARC and MAAST so I wanted to explain how trip to Port A came about. My husband and I attended the Big Bird
Collection Trip last year and we had a wonderful time. We were really looking forward to attending this year, but my husband was not able to take off on the dates that y'all
had planned. After talking about it, we decided that we would take a small trip to Port A towards the end of June. I was telling some of my ARC friends about it and they
expressed interest in going. A couple of us have birthdays that weekend, so we thought it would be fun to celebrate our birthdays together while collecting in Port A. My
husband and I decided to start a thread to see if anyone else wanted to join us. Much to our surprise, we received quite a bit of interest and that is how our trip came to be.
This trip was not planned...it was just a spur of the moment trip and just some great friends getting together. Though we started a thread on ARC, this was not an event
scheduled by ARC. This is a group of very good friends getting together to celebrate some birthdays and do some collecting.

Hey Chad and Belinda -

I appreciate your efforts at keeping things friendly between ARC and MAAST. I don't know of anyone here who has a problem with you guys having a collection trip, whether formal or informal, etc. The more the merrier!

The only "conflict" was that this was probably not the best date for us to try to have an Austin tank tour, but the way that I see it, this just gives us an excuse to have another one in the fall! ;)

I just want to add my $.02.

I didn't interpret anyone's comments as slights against ARC, or even MAAST, and I was not trying to say don't come to Austin. I was just adding that some of the ARC folks won't be in town and won't be able to participate in the tank tour. If I inadvertently stirred the pot, please accept my apologies as that was not my intention.

thanks. just wanted to point out an observation since a calender of events is tentatively posted here. would not seem there would be much trouble to forward it on for other sites to review and see if they would/could/agree to organize an all for one. no offense/disrespect was intended for any one at this site or another. was just my point. dull as it may be.

Sorry to cancel, but unfortunatley I have to travel to SA around the same time of the tank tour. I was looking forward to have some fellow Masstards check out my tank.
Hope it doesn't mess up the schedule too much.

Sounds great! I am really looking forward to seeing some great tanks this weekend.

We are going to hit four houses, which we all agreed was just about the perfect number in Corpus to get to really observe the tank and listen to the host's comments, explanation, ask our questions. The first will be kkiel in New Braunfels, followed by stoneroller in Buda, and then wrap up with our two South Austin homes, fishypets and BigMc.

We are going to meet at 2:00 at Reefs2u and head up to New Braunfels together. For those who are heading from a different direction and would like a roster sent by pm, please send me a pm and I'll get you the info you need to meet up with us.

Should be a great weekend!
