Was just looking at Coscto's site for cameras and noticed the T1i has video.
When it says HD video what are we talking about?
1 minute blibs of stuff? Or could I really shoot a several minute long video of something?
Or is the only limit to that the size of my memory card?
We had budgeted for a video camera but I really want a better photo camera.
I am wondering if the video on the T1i is good enough to slip it in as a video camera (as budgeted for! :blushing:) that also happens to take really good photos?

Cannons site says 20fps at 1920x1080 video, Im sure it can record until memory card is full. Im useing a sony xr200v hd video camera, and it does ok on pictures. But I know the cannon would be way better at photos.

So what you are saying is... it would work well enough for video?
How much memory card would you need for maybe 20 minutes of video?

the amount of video on the memory card will depend on the cameras format, etc. 20 minutes even in 1080i should not take to much.

I just looked at the book for my camera, depending on format at 1080i 120GB is close to 50 hours of video.

There are tons of sample videos on the internet.
Here is the first one I came to:

The cannon will record until the card is full. The nikon hd feature will only allow 5 min clips at 20fps. Jacks's right, go to youtube and search t1i hd video. There are a lot of examples. Karin, in all my research a few months back for my dslr, it was kind of a coke vs pepsi thing on the canon's vs. nikon.

Even though the cameras shoot video in HD, they will not replace a real video camera IMO. For one focusing is difficult when trying to shoot as compared to a video camera, and I don't think the sound quality is all that great either. I have the NIkon D90 and I only use the video for small clips of stuff I want to upload.. MY camera bag is big enough for me to carry my small video camera, so I always have both on hand.

Yes I am super excited. I am revisiting an old hobby. My 20 year old Minolta is still sitting on my desk. I brought a huge stash of photography books with me when I moved here from Germany. Of course they are all way out-dated now. But it will be fun to start over. :)

I need those books I tried to use my Moms nikon this last weekend but I cant get the correct colors out of my shots. I didnt get to keep it long enough to mess around with it too much but I have alot to learn that is for sure. I have to say Canon is one of my favorite camera brands, our point and shoot has lasted us a good while now and survived me dropping it alot.
