My harlequin shrimp survival story....

So i have 2 harlequin shrimp in a 29 biocube, about 3 days ago i was doing some tank maintenance, doing water change, also decided to take some rock out. Well yesterday i could only find one of the shrimp, i thought the other one either died or was hiding for some reason, Well the day i siphoned the water out i put it in a 5g home depot bucket and threw the rock that i took out in there also, today i was finally going to throw the water out and put away the rock when i noticed that the harlequin shrimp was in the bucket :hypnotyized: there was no circulation, water was super cold and it was dirty old water to. But somehow it survived, im acclimating it as i type this to my tank again and hope all goes well when i reintroduce to the other shrimp still in the tank..

WOW:cool: I have a similar story! I too, had a BC29 that I emptied out completley. The only place that had water was a couple of inches in the false floor at the bottom just behind the intake vent. I thougt I saw my pistol shrimp go into my other tank when I emptied it so I did not think about it. Well after letting it sit in my livingroom for 3 days like that, I decided to take it into my back yard and rinse it out. It was still cold outside and the tap water from the hose was cold too. After about 15 mins of blasting cold freshwater into the tank to rinse it out my pistol shrimp came flooding out of the vents. I thought for sure that little guy is dead. I was momentarily sad :what_smile: Then I saw it shoot across the tank. So I quickly grabbed it and ran to my other tank and put him in it and it quickly burrowed under a rock :whew:. I am proud to say it is still alive and well after about 1 month. These little guys are tough!:bigsmile:

Yeah its a great feeling when you get a surprise like that, Harlequin shrimp is doing good and it paired up with the other one as soon as i put it in.

congrats, i caught 50 peppermint shrimp and two kmonths later i was sdoing a water change and noticed i only had 10.... i figured my valentini puffer was atacking them and semi eating them, then my hermits would finish them off, this made me sad until i was maintenenceing my trickle filter and found 34 peppermint shrimp all alive and all healthy!!!! every single one lived after being reintroduced! its really crazy because my trickle plate holds 1/4 of an inch of water at most while my filters running!!! needles to say i added a barrier and check the trickle plate weekly!
