Ok I just ordered my first pico aquarium. I decided to go smaller from my 64gal to this 6 gallon w/t the built in fuge area. The tank is 12x14x8. Need a little advice.

What size should be my return pump?
How much water Flow?
What kind of lighting? T5? LED?

I plan on using chaeto as my primary filter source in the fuge anything else i should keep in mind?

Wow, very nice looking. Were did you find that tank? If it was my tank I would run a par38 led bulb. What kind of plans do you have for it?

Thanks for the help! Would Chaeto be enough to filter the Pico? I was thinking adding some mangroves too? Anything else i should add or do?

Chaeto would work great. If you go mangrove you will need a light hanging about the plant. I think for a pico, keep it simple with just chaeto.

1+ chaeto would work. just make sure you dont have too much at first or it could slowly die off and then give you unwanted nitrates/phosphates from an unknown source. Start small and be patient :)

Wow. Hats off to you. 6 gallons is the volume of my water change bucket. I can imagine it to be a very delicate balance to keep such a small system stable

Sorry havent had time for an update! I will get some pics up here soon! Im just now starting to cycle my tank I ended up going with the Viper MH lighting 75w i will later do a DIY LED setup but for now the MH will work and I only spent 40Bucks on it and my display is only about 5 gallons so I figure thats about 15w per gallon my only issue is going to be heat. As far as my Fuge light I have ordered the JBJ 4LED Magnet light I wanted something small and out of sight due to the size of the tank. For the Bulk head feed thru I ordered a Dual Nozzel 1/4" lockline so I can get some good circulation in the tank. My pump I went with the Rio90 just b/c i had it laying around going to see how the waterflow is but I think im just going to order the Pico Evolution by Hydor. In my first chamber im going to put Chemi-Pure Elite maybe some carbon in my second is going to be Chaeto and in my third is my pump. I still had some sand left over from my established 65 gallon tank which hopefully will give my pico a good jump start. Thanks for lookin everyone I will get some pics up soon!

UPDATE! Did a DIY hood for my fuge the light is a PC with a fan built in blowing over the water coming in the back chanmbers and a fan blowing across the top of my display water. Have filter floss in first chamber then chem pure and carbon along with a couple peices of live rock. Second chanmber will be Chaeto and the third has pump and heater. Display has live rock and some substrate on the bottom. The viper light has a nice blue color to it and actually heats up the tank a little bit but with the 2 fans on it lowers temps almost 3 degress. Took me awile to figure out how I wanted my aquascape but i think i like it the way it is now. Sorry for the Iphone pics!
