sean (cpreefguy) was using a red dragon for a while, you might send him a pm as he isnt on here much anymore. that pump that karin mentioned is what i have on my closed loop - very quiet and pushes water pretty well, but it does add quite a bit of heat to the water (kind of unusual for an external)

FYI the red dragon with controller was recalled and is a complete and total disaster. They are supposedly redoing it and sending out something good but the first batch never worked like they were supposed to.

The normal red dragons are great but they do put out some heat as a submersible pump and don't do well with head pressure. Realistically, your best option is still a sequence reeflo pump for a closed loop or large return but know that 1-2 years down the road you will have to replace the saltwater seal.

I have had great luck with two Pan world 50 PXX. Quiet and pumps a little over 1100 GPH @ 90 watts. It will keep 2 - 1" drains full. My first one was great until a shell entered the pump. Now I use screens on all my inlets to the pumps.

I love my lil Giant- it makes some noise and does produce some heat, but it has not failed me in 3 yrs.

Good input ya all, Got a e-mail in bad english from a guy named Kluas in Germany about the Red Dragon, yep got recalled. New one coming out at the end of May. Don't want to spend lots $$ to be the Alpha customer. So I want somthing that will kick out > 1500 gl/Hr, have a small footprint, have 1in in's/out's and be VERY quiet.
Any suggestions????

We have had good luck with our Mag12 return on our 210g. It wore out after a couple of years, so we replaced it, but I bought another part for $20, thinking can repair the old one as a back up. Certainly much cheaper than a grand, so even if it has to be replaced every few years, $150 is not too bad.

What size drains do you have? A 100 PXX is almost too much when it comes to two one inch drains. I run a 50 PXX and a 40 PX during the day. And only the 50 PXX at night. The 40 PX makes no noise and the 50 PXX is fairly quiet. Also something you need to take into consideration is the lift, some pumps drop off a bunch when you get to 5', not the Pan Worlds.

Hi FishyPets, What kind of shape is your red dragon and does it have recall problems?

Red Dragon is in great shape and this model was not affected by the recalls.

Reeflo Snapper Hybrid Gold (can be upgraded to match the DART in terms of flow if desired). About $400 for the pump, whic is different than the Snapper Hybrid (which I what I got by mistake). The regular Hybrid is fairly quiet, but not silent.

On the plus side, the pump has very low energy consumption and thus saves money.
