I ordered this awesome new setup from Gabe's. It's a 100 gallon rimless tank. Measures 48 x 24 x 20 tall. The stand is 36" tall and it was ordered unfinished. I stained and sealed the stand and I think it came out pretty decent. It's the first time I have ever stained anything. I am using a fuge/sump it's hooked up and I have started the cycle. I still need to get more rock this week. I had about 30 lbs of rock from my 29g BC and it FILLED that thing. LOL I put it in this thing and they look soo tiny. I still need to get a skimmer and a light. I figure I have a few weeks before I need those items.

I am wanting Gabe to order me a 120g, just worried about how long it will take to arrive. He had told me about some taking several months.

Ill be posting pics this afternoon. Steve, it took about 10 weeks for it to get built and to my livingroom. It sucked but it was well worth the wait.

that rosewood color is very nice.
why is the glass so green? does the green color mean it's starfire? Or not starfire?

Regric25
Tue, 27th Apr 2010, 02:08 PM
Thanks! I wish it were starfire!
Thats standard 1/2 inch glass. The water is cloudy and there is no light shining down on it so the glass looks really green but once it clears up and i get my light it wont look so bad.

I want one....lol...i like the look or rimless tanks. Not only rimless tanks, but clean looking tanks without all the extra cables and wires sticking out.

Perhaps I missed it, but what you doing about lights?

I have not decided yet. Im thinking of a MH/T5 combo but i am not sure.

Very nice and clean looking. Any ideas on what fixture style? I know you said you're leaning towards mh/t5 combo - modern style or plain ole fixture? I have always liked the single mh pendants like the Elos E-power or Current USA pendant.

I really like the rimless look...

It may be me growing up in a trailer but it seems that with the rimless top if someone bumps your house your tank is going to splash over. :D

Nice one Allan. It should be safe if someone bumps into it. You only have to worry if one of the tires on the trailer pops a flat.

Regric25
Wed, 28th Apr 2010, 07:45 PM
That is pretty much how it looks at this point. Not much to look at right now. It will be a few weekd before i get anything in there. I went from a 29g to a 100g so I have to wait for everything to cycle right now. All of my coral is in a frag tank right now until this tank is ready. I still need to get a light for it and some more rock. As soon as i get that stuff in I will update with more pics. :)

So I finally got it all set up. I got a 760w Odyssea MH light with PCs. I don't use the PCs just the MH bulbs. It had the stock yellow super intense bulbs then yesterday I got 2 XM 20K bulbs and its really blue and really nice. The colors POP really nice. Ill post some pics in about 45 mins.

I shot my tank last night for an update. I am coral sitting for a friend of mine so dont mind the big frag rack in the back corner lol. My rock is pretty much covered in coraline algae now. I started out with 100% white dry rock and now its a beatuiful pic. Most of my corals are small frags and is not in a grow out stage. let me know what you think... :)

Hey, I was wondering how much of a pain the evaporation is? I have to add water every other day (minimum) to my rimless/topless frag tank, course you have more leeway with a decent sized sump...still with the heat from the halides and no canopy/cover?

Ya know, it's not as bad as I thought. To top it off (no pun intended) I keep the ceiling fan running all day while the lights are on to keep temps down. I also have the 3 Koralias causing quite a stir on the surface.

I use a 5 gallon bucket for top off and I refill it every 3 to 4 days. I filled it up last night so I wont have to refill it until probably Thurs or Friday.
