Is that what it is called (well, in my case)? I would like to think that:
I was very very lucky
the moons aligned with every other planet in the solar system
the earth stopped spinning and moving on its access so I could have a steady hand
the camera somehow understood that I could never produce shots this DECENT and decided to take matters into its own hand
(take your pick) and those are my only usable photos after a couple of years of owning a fairly decent camera...LOL
Now if I could only be so fortunate in getting a decent tank shot ;)

Last one, I promise,
Krikey.....this one is a wild species I commonly refer to as my Amoricus Yardus Aapus, which loosely translates to my Loving Yard Ape.Pictured here injured, be careful of it's bite, it is likely to get up run around with a mean look on its face and score a couple of goals in anger and look for its next meal.

Does anyone know why if I'm attempting to link to my photobucket pictures like I always have all the sudden it says the files are too large? It let me just attach them but that wasn't really what I wanted to do.

rabadanmarco, Those are both nice but I really like the composition on your first shot. What magnification level were you shooting at for those?
rabadanmarco
Sat, 8th May 2010, 11:22 AM
using a 18-55mm lense with a macro ring converter. not really a magnification levle....i can tell you that the spike was slightly smaller than a dime
rabadanmarco
Sat, 8th May 2010, 11:25 AM
the spike took me about 1 hours to shoot. the depth of feild is so narrow on that lense that the slightest shake blurred a lot. you can see it in the spike. some spikes are in focus. others are not. huge depth of feild difference within mm...
and as for the grasshopper i fallowed him around for about 2 hours behind my school. i love this last shot cuz i can see him saying...."im gonna do it! Im gonna jump"

Karin, the shots I have taken were taken with either a Canon 30D or 5D Mark II body and a Canon 24-70 f/2.8L, Canon 85 f/1.8 or Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens. A Canon 580EX flash was used in high speed sync mode on the dragonfly picture but the rest are all ambient light.
Hope this helps.

I haven't tried dripping food color yet, this was just plain water. So far all of the color changes have come from hitting different colored paper and plastic with the flash. I want to try using different liquids eventually, milk or maybe oil.

here's an idea I have had for awhile. Water w/ iron filings and a rare earth magnet above the water. With the right magnet and the right amount of iron filings, it might be pretty cool. Just an idea.
swjim
Wed, 20th Oct 2010, 01:20 AM
That's an interesting thought, it seems like it would need to be pretty strong if the idea was to try to get it to influence the water drops as they spash. That's what you have in mind, right?
txg8gxp
Wed, 20th Oct 2010, 01:29 AM
Nope, just straight magnet power pulling the saturated water/filing mix up. This is where a electromagnet would be sweet. Yes, I know..not easy just an idea. How about two fluid's that will not mix(oil/water etc.), that could add a cool effect to the water drops. Don't forget about fiber optics lighting in the container or water, another interesting idea. Only if I was better with camera's.

OK, now I'm with you. You're right, the electromagnet and fiber optic lighting wouldn't be a setup I could make out of things laying around the house but I could definitely try oil and water. :)

Scream, Erik, Rick, thanks for the compliments. I just used a tripod, remote shutter release, a 2 second shutter opening, and a little hiking to get the water shots. When I got there the sun was directly overhead, so I had to wait around a few hours for the light to decrease a little so I could leave the shutter open. I was a little proud of the night shot since I didn't use a tripod and was able to set the shutter to 1/3 of a second and still got a crisp shot with little camera shake.
Found a nice 105mm micro by nikon for around $500, so that will be my next purchase sometime in 2011.

A few of mine... And no, the fish pics aren't from my aquarium, I took them while scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef/Ribbon Reefs/Coral Sea...
A small portion of a huge school of fish at Steve's Bommie, GBR.
http://pathfinderpics.smugmug.com/Underwater/Scuba-Diving/IMG1107/1025721537_LeX5J-L.jpg

Love the expression on his face... "Hey, stop touching me!"
http://pathfinderpics.smugmug.com/Underwater/Scuba-Diving/IMG1095/1025735893_SzTLT-L.jpg
This is just a very small portion of the sharks on this dive... There were about 60-75 overall on the reef, and another 5-10 larger oceanic white-tips cruising off the reef waiting to pick of any injured or strays from the group.
http://pathfinderpics.smugmug.com/Underwater/Scuba-Diving/IMG0922/1025738179_qYAov-L.jpg

Wow these are some amazing shots everyone!! I decided to post a cool pic I took last night outside my house. The And a pic .
First pic of a lizzard sleeping at about 2 am out in the open right on top of gardenia bush which almost died due to the freeze we had this past winter taken hand held with my nikon d60 with the wide angle kit lens in RAW.
The second pic of my back deck when it snowed was taken at abot 530 in the morning while it was still dark out. I took it on tri-pod from inside my house with a slow shutter.
The third one is just a fun one I did one day while I was eating my lunch lol
The last one is Connor when he was a baby

I find those little buggers in my classroom 3-4 times a year. The kiddoes absolutely are fasinated with them. I never kill them... collect the scorpion, put on display for the kids to see and release into the wild. The kiddoes would never let me hear the end of it if I "stomped" them.
