Just an FYI.... you may already know this but I figured I'd pass on a little info for others as well:
Buying an octopus is like the lottery. They are bought and sold with such meaningless names as 'brown octopus', 'common octopus', 'Bali Octopus' and a personal favourite 'Octopus Spp.'.
99% of wholsalers/collectors and store owners cannot ID octopus correctly. This is not due to ignorance however as octopuses are incredibly difficult to identify, even after a long time studying the group. They can change colour, body shape, texture and size in the blink of an eye.
With only a 32 gal hex, you're limited to only a couple species that stay small. All of these species are noctural so you'll hardly ever see them... that's ok, but the real kicker is that these species reach sexual maturity in less than 180 days!!! More often than not you'll recieve an adult/late juvenile (if it's even the right species) and will only live for a few weeks to months.
Other, slightly longer lived species such as O. vulgaris and the bimac are good choices if you place them in a larger tank.

Do you know what species you are getting?
If you feel like being patient (and felt the need to drive down to Corpus) I can order you an Atlantic pygmy octopus (O. joubini) in a month or two. This is the ONLY time of year when you can find juveniles, that will give you the best life expectancy in capitivity (about 9 months). If you buy an O. joubini any other time of year expect them to live only a few weeks/months.

No offense, but part of this club's mission statement is responsible reef keeping. And, this doesn't sound responsible.
You should take bjgf15's offer and use the next few months to really research what you're doing before act, if you indeed want to tackle this delicate species.

Dont take this the wrong way, but you are a novice and Octos are hard enough for a Expert to keep. Plus although they are cool, why keep a animal with such a short lifespan. Their are so many other cool fish out there.
You dont want to fall into the catagory of buying things just because you think they are cool or pretty. Sets yourself up for failure or heartache everytime.

You can tell by his own thread responses that he's not even listening. With the "bump" and such. Best of luck with the Octo, seems either way you are dead set on it regardless of the experience advice the established members and sponsors give. There's no need to bump a thread yourself the same day after it's already being "bumped" by posts....wow....

+1, I like how his established tank appears to be "established" since mid march....sigh.

You know the bad part is that yeah he is dead set on one but .. from the sounds of it and not trying to make another sponsor or non sponsor store look bad but someone is willing to order him one !! That is the problem instead of waiting and trying to get a good one from Brad (GCR) another store is willing to get whatever one is on a list that fits into the budget..One of many things wrong with this hobby!!

You can find them online for about $300 is what I found when I typed it in google. Also recommends the small ones for a 75 gal min. Keep ammonia and nitrate at zero and allow the nitrate to rise no higher than 5 ppm. The closer the nitrate is to zero, the better. The salinity should be around 1.025. And should have water changes done daily (25%) with feedings 2-4 times a day. That's just from the first page I googled. I love google. So much info. Good luck with the octo though.

maybe we would be doing him a favor by posting facts on this page so we know he at least read something about it here since he's going to be buying one regardless.....eh....nevermind. Good luck killing the octo.

I'm not trying to discourage your purchase. I am brand spankin new to reefing and never thought to go for an octopus. That is just info I found in the last half hour. Been doing a lot of research on google and throughout many forums and threads before I am making a lot of my purchases. Interested to see how an octopus is inside of a household aquarium. Only seen them at the huge city aquariums.

Sorry Rob but I will never promote this type of irresponsible fishkeeping regardless of the forum. Octopi grow faster than anything else that we keep in Aquaria and that thing will outgrow it's tank within a few very short months. It needs live crabs two to three times daily and a way to export those nutrients from the water.
I think it is unwise to bash us for trying to save an animal and an owner from the downsides of this hobby. This entire site is for that, it is in the site's statement of purpose, which should override any sub rules on a specific forum.
