Hey Guys,
So I've been looking at my closed loop, and I'm wondering, is it worth keeping it? and if not, can I close the holes up with fittings?

what would you replace it with for circulation?
if you do get rid of it, you can just put pvc plugs in the bulkheads.

Why would you want to be removing your closed loop? Anything for replacement, if so what?

I'd replace it with powerheads for the time being. And, yes I completely missed I could just simply plug it with PVC fittings!!! :)

question is why would you want to get rid of the closed loop. its better than having powerheads in the tank.
1. there would be no stray electrical current in the tank.
2. less heat transfer when using a closed loop.
3. more water movement with closed loop than with power heads.
4. no big pumps to look at in the tank.
5. 1 pump instead of 2 or 3 power heads might mean less electricty.
6. no cleaning powerheads that get covered with algae with a closed loop.
what are you trying to acheive with taking the closed loop out.

My biggest issue right now with the closed loop is that the pump I have for it is rather loud, replacement pumps are expensive, and pluming it with the lack of space in the stand is also an issue, which would lead me to build a complete additional table/stand just to run the closed loop pump in. Between those things, and, the fact that a pair of evolutions will use around 8W (if I remember correctly) and, that's way less than the PanWorld PX100-X, which from what I recall, uses around 125-130W, I'm thinking I may hold off on the closed loop until my next tank, where i'll build the tank around the closed loop, instead of building the closed loop around the tank.
