lack of growth in my tank has forced me to look at whaaaaat it could be.
now under halides things are starting to turn my way, but...........
is removing the filters, turning off the skimmer, etc. when supplementing a good or necessary thing?
When supplementing, what if any tricks do ya'll use.
help me make my tank a bit more beautiful.

Supplement what?
I just dose alk and calc based on what my values are according to test kits (I dose to keep the levels where I want them at)
I turn off the return pump when I feed phyto, etc. but not for dosing

Are we talking feeding or dosing chemicals? If chemicals, could you post your current values so we can look at what might be missing, if anything. Also what kelvin bulbs are you running? What coral do you have that isn't growing?

Everything (shrooms, zoos, xenia, leather, star polyps) are healthy and happy, just nothing seems to propagate.
all water levels.. salinity, kh, ph, ammonia, phosphate, cal, etc. are all good.
nitrates still fluctuate a little.
300+ watts over a 75 gallon long tank, 2 150's halides (10k) + 40w actinic for color.
flow is slow and methodical, but enough to keep everything moving just a bit.
drains+skimmer+cryptic refugium+return are below in a 20 gallon sump.

first word of advice...don't dose anything you do not test for.

If you're using halides, what temp does your tank stay at?
My experience has shown me that the biggest key for long term success is stability. Things like temp, salinity, ca, alk, ph, etc need to stay within a finite range.
The only thing I don't test for and add on a weekly basis is Lugol's Solution. Don't be fooled by most of the additives you see at the fish store.

In my experience, impressive soft coral growth tends to happen in high nitrate/phosphate environments. Just an observation from my tank.
