In the past few months, this organization has endured many changes. As expected, the membership has embraced those changes as the new focus of this educational organization. In an attempt to make the site more friendly, we have attempted to lessen the moderation and provide more opportunity for members to voice their opinions and ideas to make this reef family even stronger.

While this has been a great change, there have been a few instances of conversations that pushed the limits of opinionated discussion and occasionally crossed over into the realm of insult and/or disparagement. One reason this occurs is the difficulty to hear sarcasm and humor in typed text. Also, sometimes the discussion may get heated enough that people type things they would never say to someone else in person.

I will be the first to admit that I have likely been a part of these unproductive discussions as have other board members, moderators and members. After discussion, the moderation team and BOD are committed to leading by example and taking care not to push those lines from now on.

What we are asking from the membership is simple. Before you type a response in the heat of the discussion, take a deep breath and ask yourself if you would say this in person. Ask yourself, if the post you are about to make will help make MAAST a better place, or is it simply going to create turmoil.

Obviously, everyone will not agree 100% of the time, but we are all here for the same reasons.

Thank you for being patient with the moderation team as they work hard to make this a positive place to share this interest, and thank you for remembering that you are talking to other people here, not nameless computer identities.

[QUOTE=hobogato;753060 take a deep breath and ask yourself if you would say this in person. [/QUOTE]

I would. Especially if you want to call one out be name. Imply it under speculation another user name and not say such when you see said person in person.

That's just me. I could be wrong.

But any time you wanna take that deep breath.................

not sure what you mean here, in case you havent noticed, i try to call everyone by his or her actual name if i know it. sometimes i get them wrong, but i would rather direct my comments to real people with real names - just seems a bit more honest and straight forward :)

and, as i already told you in a PM, i am sorry, i dont know who you are, so i apologize if i met you in person and didnt use your computer name

Not sure if you are being dense on purpose or just ignorant.

My name is Frank. Has been said so under my user name as such. So do be "straight forward and honest."

You called a user out by name here.......

Are you saying I am the "drunkencalm". Cause that is the word on the "street"........... if you will.

No need to apologize. It will all work out in the end.

Frank (H20Chem),
Like I stated before, I normally don't get involved in foolish banter, but every once in awhile someone/something tempts me into using my big word dictionary. Don't get me wrong, I have been out of High school for quite some time, but the words haven't changed one bit.

Exhibit A:

"Cause that is the word on the "street"........... if you will. ",

but no, no, you weren't finished yet, you also threw in this little tidbit for good measure:

"No need to apologize. It will all work out in the end."

The last time I checked, the name of this particular educational website/forum is called M.A.A.S.T. , it is an acronym for:
Marine Aquarists Association of South Texas,
just in case you didn't know. I didn't see anywhere on this site where it gives you, me, or anyone for that matter permission to be a *MULE*, if you know what I mean. Quite frankly Frank, maybe just maybe, you are the person who is as you eloquently stated in your post:
"Are being dense on purpose or just ignorant."

If you have something to say; just say it! I am not going do decipher what you "think" i was trying to say when you just quoted what I said. No big words required here so if you missed it I asked......

Why is there a problem posting information on sponsors to "all" members when if, in fact, that information will be public record if the non-profit is approved? I know it may be a hard concept for many too see especially when still in the approval process.

I am not looking to make trouble. Just looking for an answer!

well, as i recall, we have had several members who are named frank, not just you. so it would be ignorant of me to assume that any one of those people named frank was any one of those usernames.

as far as the records, they are public record, viewable by prior request of a charter member at any meeting.

"My mama use to say if you can not say anything nice don't say anything at all". I have no idea what started this last argument, and I don't care I am just getting tired of arguments. The only thing we should be arguing about is what brand of salt or pump to use!

I have external, but that’s how it came. They are noisy but I have a 14 inch water fall. So I have plenty of noise. I really like the noise.
I think the external help with water temp which in my tank inches toward 83-4 with the MH’s on. My buddy says it because I keep my house at 77 degrees all year.

Oh I'd love waterfall noisy! More so than pump noise. I keep the house at around 77 too but I don't have MH and may tank stays at 79/80 degrees

I have 3 - 2 inch pvc drains water falling into a lower sump. It makes ALOT of noise. But its better with the doors closed.

If the door is open its hard to talk over.

ill trade you tanks then, if you take out my stand pipe its about a 22 inch drop to the bulkhead making a nice(not) waterfall sound. have you noticed any diff since using tropic marin, thinking of switching to the bio-actif

you mean you have the constantly flushing toilet sound? you might be able to try the rigid airline/home made durso trick to get rid of it. or, you could put 90 deg elbow on the end of the pipe where it falls into the sump to redirect the water as it drains in.

no i fixed it with a durso stand pipe, but i do get lots of micro bubbles but they are gone as they go over first baffle, but when i install my new fuge this weekend all that should be fixed, im still debating on doing sand/mud or both or staying bare bottom, now that i have a dedicated fuge. would rigid airline work with the durso??

Here is my thread on how I decided on what salt to use:
http://maast.org/forums/showthread.php?t=55942

specifically this article:
http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2005/3/aafeature/view?searchterm=salt%20mix
(obviously I am not breeding urchins -yet! :D- but if it's good enough for urchins it's got to be good enough for my stuff)

Chris, lots of things are looking better in the tank right now but I am always changing a few things at once so it's tough to say if it's just the salt. I am leaning towards the daily dosing of bulkreef 2 part having a bigger impact than the salt but it's just a hunch - nothing scientific...

Mainly funds. Hours were cut at wk and im not making what I used to. Was cut in half and when u go a whole yr making good money then all of a sudden u drop by half a lot of changes take place. Didn't think bulk heads were so expensive. My biocube is up but when I went to turn on the light the actinic went out checked the ballast with the 10k and it lit so its the bulb. Then my 10 k went out. Just not going good. My stand is in the house with canopy sitting on top of that tank sitting outside in the rain. My mag pumps out there also getting wet hope the rain didn't hurt them.

Seriously.
