Their tissue is pretty sensitive since they live in low light areas. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the excess light. What are you feeding it?

I think Karin experienced some color fading when she found the "yellow spots".... or I could be making that up lol

Actually for me the color fades in response to bright light. It doesn't seem to affect the solid yellows but bright orange turns to paler pink for me if I have it too close to the T5s. That's why my primo dark sun is in the shade. :)
Don't want it to get a sun burn. :D
The yellow spots I had when the suns were stressed turned out to be planula and most if not all turned into baby sun coral polyps! I didn't notice any color changes on the skin. To me the color changes of the skin are in response to lighting conditions not stress (like the planula)
If they open and eat you're good to go no matter what color. :)

okay you will need to feed them or else they'll decline over time.
it takes corals a long time to starve but it will happen eventually.
Open means hungry :)

lol. I just love the suns. Other corals have come and gone but sun corals are sort of my most enduring coral favorite. :)
JT, teasing them is not nice. They will open if they sense food in the water but they're not very mobile ;) Be a dear and give them a snack!

x3 on feeding, only reason I don't have any in my tank.

I thought mine had grown legs, then I realized my emerald crab was doing his routine work out bench pressing unglued corals

They do love their work outs. :)

I don't even know why I keep my sun coral. Mine only open at night or when I put too much food in the tank they will start to unfurl. During the day they are little more than pink bumps on a rock, but at night they open up and I feed about three times a week. Turn off the pumps, and gently drop little bits of goodness right into their hungly little tentacles.

We built a little cave and put the sun coral under there. We've also been spot feeding. However, the sun coral hasn't opened up and the skin is still without color. I'm guessing it will take a while to heal but the polys look healthy from what I can tell because they're still bright orage but like I said they haven't come out yet. Unless it's when we're sleeping. Hopefully it will make a speedy recovery!
