little silverfish?

I was cleaning my tank and noticed a whole huge amount of these little critters that look like silverfish (you know the ones that live in your garage not in the water). Small, 1/2 a centimeter with lots of little legs, silver body.

I had at least 50 of these in a mass of algae. Are these things beneficial to the tank?

amphipods. harmless. some critters like to eat them. :)
