ok, this is the official contest thread. sometime this week, could everyone please take an update picture and post here how things are going? we will do this the last week of each month.

Yep, in one month -- when we got the frag, it was 2 mouths on one conjoined head, that was definitely on its way to splitting into 2 branches already... thats now done :)

This pic was taken a week and a half ago in my pico! I am not expecting to win any awards. I just thought it would be interesting to test every ones high light, high flow theroy. I spot feed every other day and change water approx every 4-5 days. It is in a 3g picotope with stock lighting and a penguin 100 filter. That's it!

No splitting to report here either but I received it as 3/4 of a head and it's filled in to form a full head.
Since it's not a sun coral I tend to remember feeding it only every couple of days. :o

I started with 2 mouths on one head -- its split once, and forming a new mouth on both heads already.. :)

No real trick -- it gets fed the same slurry that my tank gets regularly -- a little bit of everything :) Its in the middle of my tank, so it lies in the outer edge of the cone of light from each of the halides -- not overtly intense, around the 900-1000 PAR range if I recall from my readings correctly.. :)

You I dont know. This candycane is happy but my teal candycanes are even happier. I grow mushrooms like no other. Im not joking when I say ive probably gown 10-15 new shrooms in a couple of months. My colt coral trees dropped 3 new babies just last week. Im not doing much to the tank and its working, lol. I do dose probably twice a month though.

4/26/10 This is the hardest coral to get a good picture of. It is too bright!! I am well behind others here, but mine is fat and growing. No split yet, but substantially larger than it began. This pic was from tonite after it was fed.

The middle one has two distinct mouths and is getting ready to split. The top one is just starting to form a second mouth.

Not really sure what is going on here...i have spot fed it about 6 times since we got the frags and I broadcast feed the corals once a week or so. I am not very good about water changes, maybe they like my icky water :wink_smile:

Sorry I've been gone so long.

The good news is I finished my B.S. in aeronautics.
The bad news is my tank suffered a lack of maintenance and I've lost some coral - mainly SPS (the expensive stuff of course).

However I’m back and the Krypto is doing ok. It actually has grown some but you can't really tell with the crappy iphone pic I took. Still one head, but hopefully it will take off now with better maintenance/feeding. Anyway it's good to be back.

Well last month, you can see it was forming a second mouth. This month the young one wants to break free and gain its independence. They grow up so fast :cry_smile::cry_smile:

Been a while since anyone posted to this thread. (is this contest still active) I know not eveyone who got a frag post.

My cryptonite is doing great. As of a couple of days ago I noticed it is finally starting to grow a new month. Very tiny but its there!

And this is in my BioCube 29 With stock lighting.

My Krypto was doing well and like Ray's growing another mouth (2nd)...until early this week. I was cleaning my tank and knocked it into the rocks - seems like it's a gone'er. I didn't even realize till a few hours later. Sucks. Good news is my tank is looking much better since I'm done with school, plus I'm starting my long awaited frag tank this weekend.

I just found mine!
With the emergency move a lot of stuff didn't get organized. I figured it died or got lost but when I was dividing some macro I found the little frag on the bottom.
Weird enough it looks better than on the frag rack in the old tank.

Maybe the high flow/high light wasn't the way to go after all. It seems to have elongated and has a teeny tiny dot next to the original mouth. Maybe it will not only survive but grow a second mouth for me as well!

Well I had to go digging, but I got the little sucker back. I really needed some rearranging of the tank anyway. Stay tuned for some frags available in the next week or two. Like Karin, I plan to ditch the high flow, high lighting...he's now in a low flow, low light area.

Well, my frag has taken it's time growing. For months it only got larger and larger, with no additional mouths or signs of producing any new heads. Recently, within the past onth or so, it has started to pinch off into 2 heads total. It also has 2 mouths.

Well here is an update since it is the end of the month. It has definitely split into two distinct heads, but I recently did the rockwork and moved this guy and I am not sure if he hasn't adapted yet or if its health is just starting to go south. It doesn't look too bad, but it isn't as big as it was earlier in the month. Paying close attention to it.

I started with one head and now have two(almost). This frag spent most of its life in a 3g pico with stock lights. We took down the pico and it is now in my 29g biocube.

So, here is my question. I have a colony of these that has 20+ heads. I feel gready for having this frag as well. I would like to give it away. Would it be a problem if I put it on level two in the frag exchange but didn't receive a credit?

I think we have all been guilty of not updating according to posted rules when this all started, lol.

Since moving the candycane into my 180 a few weeks back I now have almost 3 heads, definately 3 mouths. Really seems to like the 420watts of VHO and the flow in this tank. Its placement is about 6" or so below the surface of the water. Will try to get a decent pic.

Here's my entry! 8 heads, 8 mouths. How? I did absolutely nothing. I fed it for the first couple months a little with mysis and brine. It's on the floor. I never moved it. I'm basically lazy. My water generally tends to run low Alk, around 2.8 Meq/L. That's not on purpose though.

Okay....8 definite heads, possibly 10 total as the 2 in front are splitting and have multiple mouths. 10 total mouths. Mine has grown deferently than many others as it stayed grouped together and looks like a cauliflower or broccoli head. Have been in 29 gal biocube with 150 watt MH. Fed with occassional mysis and artemia.

This contest was a lot of fun. I am glad I decided to participate. Initially, I didn't feel as if mine would be very successful in my system, but as it turns out...it did quite well. On a side note, I received some teal candy canes at the same time as I did my kryptonite frag, those teals have tripled the size of the kryptonite colony.
