Well, I have a clam nipper....cleaner wrasse....since I haven't been able to catch him yet and he's nipping like crazy....I decided to build a clam cage for my baby maxima and large crocea.

They are finally opened up....YAY!

looks functional rob

did you want to come by and grab that fish trap to try and get that little bugger. i hate to say it, by you could use one of the clams as bait in the trap and it would probably work.

^lol, Bernie came by yesterday and he said the same thing.... "use your clam for bait!" LOL!

Good idea....and yes, I would like to pick up the trap. Is it ok if I swing by one evening next week"? Not in a panicked hurry now that I have the cage.

Ace, do you have a need or use for the wrasse? If so, he's yours.....pretty sure you have clams though???

Where did you have the clams before you had them in the cage, did you have them in sand or were they on a rock. If on a rock how did you get them off? and did you lay them on their side in the cage to keep them from grabbing on to the eggcrate?

i have clams, so i definitely dont want it, but thanks anyway. actually, i just got a call from mrs.z28pwr and they need the trap. i think they will be picking it up today, and you can pick it up from them when you need it next week. they are much closer to you anyway.

Perfect. Thx. You want the wrasse for the school?

If you look closely...they are both in the cage with the rocks they were attached to. The small maxima is actually attached to a piece of clam shell and the crocea is attached to a flat pice of liverock with watermeloon zoas on it. I had both in the sand in the exact same spot they are in the cage.

I have heard of people cutting the base....but I personally would not be brave enough to try that approach....if I had to remove one from a rock...which I never have....then i would most likely just gently twist/rock it back and forth until it let loose. I think gentle is the keyword here as to not force it...but encourage it. It seems simpler to me to try and keep your clams on smaller rocks or maybe even removing the large rock it's attached to and chisel it out.

i made the mistake and put mine on a big piece of rock, and now i would like to move it to the sand. I don't know about the chisel part, i was told never expose a clam to air, so maybe put it in a bag and move the whole rock to a rubbermaid tub and chisel it underwater. I don't want to slice the foot and damage the clam either, so i guess i can try twisting it like you said.

^I have heard that too, not to expose clams to air, but I have many times including just last night when I was adding them to the cage.

Ace, care to comment? I know you have had clam tanks before....what's your experience? Anyone else? Experience, not what you were told or read.
