My only question is -- can the dinner be slightly modified to include a non-beef/pork based meat? I am quite allergic to both, unfortunately...

I guess since it says that children 2 and under are free, that kids are allowed to come--can someone confirm? Also, is there a discount if you are a zoo member?

Charter members can buy tickets for $15 and web members for $20. Children 2 and under are free.
Charter members can buy multiple tickets for $15 or their own ticket for $15 and spouse, guest, kids, etc. for $20?

Kids are welcome at any MAAST meeting. That's how future reefers are made!
I don't know about the zoo member discount.

$15 for Charter members only. [note Charter members can buy one additional ticket at $15 for a spouse or child]
$20 for Spouse, guests, kids, etc.
$20 for Web members

Justin,
I will send an email to the woman who is coordinating the food. I'm sure that something can be done to accomodate. Sorry I did not think of that issue. -Kristy

Re: zoo membership-
Because the zoo is open only to our group, we are having a catered meal and guided behind-the-scenes tour, the zoo membership discounts do not apply.
However, if you have a zoo membership, you are welcome to come earlier than the rest of us and roam the zoo for no additional charge, then just meet us at the front gates at 6pm.

Hey guys -
I went back to the BOD for clarification on children's ticket prices. Charter members can buy tickets at $15 each for themselves, their spouse or one adult guest, and for the children in their immediate family. So, a family of four would be $60, which still beats dinner and a movie!

Yes, just paypal MAAST the $15 per person and you can note "zoo event" on the memo line. We need an accurate guest list for the gate, so please post here when you have paid and for how many, etc. so that we can reconcile the names on the guest list.

If I receive your Charter Membership in advance of the event, you'll be able to attend under Charter terms...:) I need to find out how far in advance the Zoo will need the count. I do believe there is a cut off date for attendance. Will confirm...

I could always post a check if that'd work. Unfortunately paypal hates me and refuses to transfer my account from the UK, thus I have to call the UK office to have it cancelled, and fill out some forms, which i've simply just not gotten around to yet. :( If you'd really really like me to use PayPal, I can do, it'll just take a little while, and may not be done by the time we have the meeting.

Bringing flashlights is a great idea! (I *think* I recall that the last time we did this it was fall, so got dark even earlier, but certainly if we are running around until 10pm we may appreciate the extra lights, especially with little ones).

Also....the Zoo needs an approximate number of those attending so we will have to have an RSVP deadlinee of this Sunday, April 4th. Please confirm so we can get you included. This is really a cool event and was a big success when we did this before. WE GET THE WHOLE ZOO TO OURSELVES....how cool is that? And dinner to boot. :)

A couple of questions, we are still unsure, and I know need to make a decision fast. Is there access to Wheelchairs/carts? One of my dilemmas is that I know there is no way Steve could walk the zoo...I have never been so really want to go. Also, I had committed with my oldest son to compete in the San Antonio Dash Scavenger Hunt the same day, if I am unable to attend, could someone else go in my place, or our tickets be refunded..
Sorry, trying to weigh all options, before making final decision.

Sorry so slow to get back to you guys with answers. I'm working in Hawaii for a few weeks, and it's a "work hard, play hard" kind of life these days - plus a five hour time difference.
jc:
Guided tour will be of the aquarium and I believe they will also give us a tour of the African cichlid pond / reptile area, just below our dining area, but not of the entire zoo.
BA:
Don't know Laurie Pagel or Stacy. Special events are arranged through the Catering department, not the education department.
MrsBigBird:
Not sure about wheelchairs, but she did mention that there could be some sort of cart / shuttle made available for anyone that needs extra assistance getting about. Let us know if you decide to go and arrangements can be made to confirm the reservation for it.
I don't think substituting a name on the list would be any problem. Refunds would be a decision for Sherri and/or BOD... no idea. I do know that we have to pay based on our estimate, so I suspect refunds would be discouraged.

Sherri, where do we check in on Saturday? Just go up to the entrance and say we're with the MAAST dinner?
Zoo officials will have our list of attendees (which I'm handling over today) at the entrance. Just let them know you are with the MAAST Group - The listing I am turning over has everyone's name on it in alphabetical order by last names and a separate list for children that are 2 & under.
If there are any other instructions - I will get them when I deliver the name list today & will post any updates here on this thread. I will also check on whether we can bring flashlights?? I believe someone asked that question. :)

we have one person who has paid and will not be able to attend. rather than ask for a refund, that person has graciously donated the ticket to be used by someone who wants to attend that was not able to meet the deadline. stipulations are below:
1. the ticket is for a charter member, so to accept the ticket, you must be a charter member or the guest of a charter member who is already attending.
2. this is first come first serve in this thread - no PMs
3. we only have one replacement slot and can not add any addition people as the final arrangements have already been made with the zoo.
4. the cutoff time to accept this ticket is 2:00 pm today.

Ramsey -
There was mention earlier in the thread that if you want to come in earlier to explore the zoo, there would be a cost of $5 more per ticket and those arrangements had to be made by the deadline for purchasing tickets. Sorry, looks like it's too late for that..... unless you happen to have zoo membership passes, then you are welcome to go early and just meet our group at the gates at 6:00.

I bet it was a blast....so wish we could have made it....we went to the strawberry festival in Poteet today....was really cool but I think having the zoo to ourselves would have topped it!
Glad everyone had a great time, can't wait to see pics.
Me too Rob, I had planned weeks ago with my son to compete in a Scavenger Hunt (realized I am not as young as I thought,) then I found out about the Zoo Event, and then last week, the Strawberry Festival...all in the same weekend. (I have never been there either) I have been wanting to visit the zoo for a while, :at_wits_end: hopefully next week me and the "Princer" will make a trip out there.
Glad everyone had fun!

It was fun. My wife and the Boy had a great time which was worth the admission (If Momma ain't happy....) It was nice having the zoo to just our group. There were a few people that I finally had the chance to meet (GreenMako, Stangchris, etc.) and a few I haven't seen in awhile (BStreep and Chris the Marine/Zoo Keeper). Hopefully this is an event that we can participate in often.

Thanks to all that came - hope it was a good family "outing." I think our most "enjoyable moment" was at the jaguar enclosure when the jaguar himself time and time again "stalked" the youngsters sitting at the window and would pounce at the window at them...the kids were in awe and created quite a bit of excitement...just that in its' self was worth the deep laughs...great to see everyone and I'm sorry Kristy (Event Coordinator) wasn't able to attend herself what she put together...thanks to all.
