Hola fishkeepers!
My name is Randy, and I'm with Polly's Pet Shop. We are so pleased to be a new sponsor of MAAST, so I thought I'd take the time to share with you a little about our store and myself.
First of all, Polly's is a true family pet store, started by my grandparents in 1977, and currently run by my parents! I have grown up around animals my whole life, and my family and I love 'em all! We have always strived to make our stores fun, clean, educational places to visit...and I hope they are! Our two stores are located in Universal City, at 940 Pat Booker Rd near Randolph AFB, and in New Braunfels in the Marketplace Shopping Center (Exit 187 off I35) N Business I35 Suite 910. We have all sorts of pets, from mammals and reptiles, to birds and insects...oh yea, and lots of fresh and SALTWATER FISH and CORALS! Which is why we're here! So stop on by sometime and check us out!
Now for a little about me... as I've said my name is Randy and I am one of the Saltwater Guru's at Polly's. Although the shops have been doing saltwater for many years, I became involved in it around 8 years ago. I have two reef tanks in my personal collection, and 80G Bow and a 24G Nano...which I love (although I consider all the tanks at the store my playground as well!) If you ever have any questions I will be more than happy to offer my opinion. I will never claim to be an expert, for it seems that I learn new things everyday, but I will always give you my honest opinion based on my past experiences, I'm not afraid to voice my thoughts, but on at the same time I'm not afraid to say "I have no idea, but I'll find out!" I love Marine life, and I love it when I see successful slices of ocean thriving in people's living rooms! So there you go...a little about myself, and a little about our stores! We're happy to be here, and we're here to make fishkeeping as fun as possible!
Thanks
-Randy
Oh yea, I'm also full of useless Star Wars and Disney trivia... just thought I'd throw that out there. :shades:

Thanks for the info Randy, welcome to Maast. Can I ask which location you work at and a little more info about your personal tanks?

I'm mostly at the UC store...although some days, like this particular Saturday, NB hijacks me over to there store! My 80G was my first and ongoing experiment..I started it 7 years ago...and it went through a restart last July when my now wife and I got married and we had to move the tank to our apartment...its a very eclectic tank, with a kenya tree, pagota, xenia (a whole lot I may add!), several zoas, branch hammer, trumpet, some mushrooms, pink (but actually more orange) birds nest, and probably some other stuff I cant think of right now. Also has a Sailfin Tang (name Maneoneo), Blue Tang, Ocellaris and Misbar Clown Pair, the oldest darn Yellow Watchman in the world, and a 3 year old Mandarin Goby.
The 24 gallon I reset up 2 months ago. Has a Clown pair, bluespot goby, mushrooms, bubble anemone (5 years old) zoas, closed brain (honestly forgot species) and a purple/green acan rock that I LOVE! so there ya go!
And yes tebstan... Family Guy quotes!

Yea, you're probably right. This is my first night actually posting, so I'm still trying to figure it all out. We just got our sponsorship last night, thanks for the heads up!

Randy.. When do your Salty Stuff orders come in?
Both Stores usually get their orders Wednesday mid afternoon.
When we do ORA orders (about once a month) they generally come in later in the week like thursday or friday.

Randy, Im a bit late but welcome to MAAST. It was through your store I heard about this club a few years back. I always love shopping at your store and have bought quite a bit of livestock and dry goods both from you. My favorite clam came from your store. Your employees are always nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. Keep up the great work!

Not sure if I mentioned that before but I especially liked it that when I asked something and the person didn't know the answer she didn't just BS me and instead looked it up with me in a reference book. :)
I don't expect LFS employees to know everything and it's great when someone can say :"hey I have no idea but I have some tools that can help us find an answer for this."

Karin, I don't suppose you remember who the employee was, or at which store you received this help?

I'd never been to your store until the meeting last month. Pretty impressive fish room. Didn't make it too far outside of the saltwater side, but I can assume the rest of the store is just as nice.
I love that you guys are a family owned store. My sister and I work for my Mom's company, so I can totally appreciate meeting you, your Dad, and sis. We've got friends that live in Shertz, so now I have an excuse to stop by your store every time we go to their house.

Universal City. Very petite young woman with long brown hair in the fish department. I haven't seen her in awhile though!
