Red Fromia Starfish Eggs????

Im not sure what these are but They are right next to where my Red Fromia starfish has been for the last few days. Them look like eggs but I have no idea how they reproduce. Ill be documenting each day to see the progression. If anyone knows about how the Fromia Star reproduces let me know. I cant seem to find anything about them laying eggs. There are alot of little "Red Eggs" the exact same color as the fromia star. This is the only star so if it reproduces and little stars form then it was Asexual. Kinda neat. ill post some HD resolution Macro video in a little while.

:confused:Here is a quick vid of it. Looking at it it seems as the eggs are too big for the star. I dont know what these are. There are no fish in this tank. Just nassarius snails, turbos, 1 emerald crab, and some bumblebee snails. I had a flame hawk and a Starry Blenny but they have been in quarantine for 4 days and they were not there yesterday... I have no idea. I guess Ill just have to wait and see if anything comes of it.

How long have you had the star? Has the star stayed beside the eggs this whole time? About how many eggs are there?

The eggs have been there about 24 hrs at least and the star has been in that spot for about 5 days. It moves about the area but it stays right by its side it seems. I have had the star a couple of months. From what I can see there is about 7 eggs. There could be more under the star though, but IDK.

Starfish spawn which means they release eggs and sperm into the open ocean at the same time. Females can produce up to 65 million eggs per spawning season. During spawning season thousands of starfish gather and release sperm and eggs into the ocean. The egg and sperm join and produce many tiny sea stars which float in the water like little blobs that later form into a star shape.
They can also asexually reproduce. They also can regenerate their body. If another creature attacks the starfish and eats or tears off an arm they can regenerate arms. As long as the main body is not injured they can re-grow.

From what I have read the eggs are released and then fertilized by a male so I don't expect anything to come of th eggs. The star staying in that spot before the eggs does make it sound like it laid them. otherwise I would guess that its having a tasty snack.

Thats true it could be a tasty snack. If its not the stars whose is it? haha Hopefully only time will tell.
