Everyone on here my have already seen this before. But I'm new and was wondering if this is overkill or can this be done reasonable. If so has anyone in SA ever tried it like this video?

I have seen the video before. Pretty nice work. I don't think it is overkill. The most expensive part would be a custom sump and if you have the tools it could be done as a DIY for relatively cheap also.

And Welcome to MAAST! :)

I dont think its overkill. I think its just right. I'm going the same route with my bc14.

I think it defeats the purpose of an "all-in-one" tank. To each's own.

Take pictures it you decide to add a sump. It would be nice to see the process.

So far all "all-in-ones" fail to replace or replicate a refugium.

I plan to add a sump for a large refugium and sand bed. I will keep the back filter to hold purigen, posban, carbon, rock rubble what ever floats your boat. That will allow for alot of filtrations and then I can go bare bottom with it.

I had a sand storm in my BC14 today and it had me thinking BB

I found a 12" glass cube that would fit a bc14 stand for $25

Bit of healthy debate...

Although your comment is true in many cases, not true in all. My Finnex seems to have got the refugium right. Of course, it seems that this is the exception, not the rule.

Honestly, are nanos refugium dependent? Typically they rely on water changes and a high level of husbandry, not a refugium to cleanse the water. I always felt that if you wanted a "high tech" nano, you had to build one from scratch.

JMO.

The first all was actually a typo lol. Honestly, I would say no they are not dependent. But they are nice to have and it is fun to tinker.

It was just food for thought. I'm a nano lover at heart. I don't think I'll ever own a "big" tank, posibly several small, lol.

But they are nice to have and it is fun to tinker.

Could never argue with tinkering being fun.

I have a purist standpoint, thus my opinion, lol.

I expected nothing less from the Finnex-Man :)

well i have two options.....being relatively new i'm trying to find someone that wants to sell/teach me how to do this to a 29 biocube/JBJ or I'd like to get one of those red sea aquariums. not sure what to do.....either way i want to do alot of thinking first. more than likely i'll trade my ps3 or sell it to start off.

I started with a stock biocube and started modding from there. It has been a great tank.

yup dont understand why you would buy a all in one to make it a totally different setup

nano-reef has some good info. All I did was get rid of stock bioballs and use different media, and upgrade lighting system.

I think your best bet is youtube and google. Do you have a tank at the moment or will this be the first?

i've had 3 tanks in the past. i had a 20 long running with t5's and a bak-pak filter with about 40 pounds of rock. i just want something more contained. i'm kind of a tank addict, but i want to make this my last for a while.....fingers crossed
