that i have an over crowed sand bed aka i need a bigger tank

Fri, 26th Feb 2010, 07:56 AM
i see mollies instead of cuttle fish. and i lost two of the eight baby cuttles in the last three days :(

still see a little hair algae from when the tank was torn down to remove the damsels, but the sea hare is slowly winning the battle

little bit of cyano on the sand - also slowly going away :)

Cyano (a little tiny bit)
Same here along with some brown hair type algae all over my rocks. I need to find me a sea hare to do some maintenance on my rocks cause my crabs aren't touching the stuff. :(

DIATOM. After I removed a lot of the rocks that had caulerpa racemosa on it I got a major diatom bloom. I have to blow it off the gorgos several times a day to avoid tissue damage (which might still happen anyway). I am not happy right now.

Cyano. Everytime I get it gone from a place it takes residence elsewhere.

Also not enough room.

Europhyllia
Fri, 26th Feb 2010, 08:24 AM
Yeah I need a taller tank as well. Taller and deeper. Gorgonians are big and tall...

Fri, 26th Feb 2010, 08:29 AM
You know I think I would like a four foot deep, four foot high and eight foot wide tank... until that fills up of course...

sounds like it's you who need Gator's 650!

allan
Fri, 26th Feb 2010, 09:09 AM
Seems that if I want Gator's tank I'm gonna need a place to put it.. and a place to sleep and park my truck. When I went to the 190 I think I pushed Gloria's tolerance to the wall, or I should say the door because if I try to bring in another tank I'm out of a home and wife. :)

Y'all that have the hubby wifey combo that are both into the hobby are lucky. For the rest of us mundanes trying to convince the 'other' that 50 bones for a stick is actually a good deal takes a looooooot of work.

Sorry Erik, didn't mean to hijack your thread. Good topic and hanging around to see if my problems are shared by others.

Lobophora (that brown slippery scaly algae)

A little bit of cyano on the ends of the tank, presumably where it doesn't get enough flow because it's just below the vortechs on each end

Another coral that has fallen on the rocks and needs to be re-positioned, glued/puttied, etc. Sigh.

Cyano in the sand bed is the usual spots. Very annoying doing weekly 3g water changes. Added more flow to the tank to try and hit any dead spots.

Ugly aquascape and coral placement. I'm not much of a decorator and reaquascaping is hard now that my tank is full. Micro algaes And I am starting to grow old of the 10K.

need to rescape now with new live rock i got from Eve and Ross(thanks) i have a full frag rack and crowded sand bed with stick frags. i feel your pain Allen, one of the reasons im a "boomerang kid" i spend to much time and $$$ on my tank, o-well i still have my tank obviously

i spend to much $$$ on my tank

That is the real problem I see with my tank, never enough money to get it where I want it. ;)

I see gorgeous things that makes my tank say YUMMY!!!!!

But my wallet is telling me: YO!!! get a real job so you can get what you want

LOL

Ha ha ha.....too late, already in an ROTC program. So i'll be doing that soon enough ;)

Then i'll be moving around too much to be having much of a tank...i'll have to get me a biocube or rimless tank smaller than my 60 gallon. that can be relatively inexpensive to set up every so often and still allow me to enjoy the hobby as I PCS.

Europhyllia

got another problem:
snail knocked down my awesome corky finger frag. :(

ismvel
Fri, 26th Feb 2010, 09:57 AM
oh yea, have that problem too. Death to snails and all things that undermine our hard work in strategically placing items in our tanks.

At least you are at home to catch it and it doesn't go unnoticed. :)

Sweet!!! Yeah, but you only have to worry about that for about 20 years or so. I know a Colonel over here that has a 48 gallon cube that he carries with him when he PCSes around the world. He told me it was the biggest that he felt comfortable shipping.

Welcome to the uniform brother.

Dang it, sorry 'bout the hijack Erik. I'm trying, really I am.

in a 125g tank with massive amounts of liverock it's never a sure thing to find a 1/2" frag though... :(

No more room on the sandbed for my beautiful LPS
The tank itself!! A cube!... I want a wider, shallower tank!
My lost frags inside the rockwork somewhere (2 rics and a zoa frag)

have you tried injecting it directly with a syringe?

Yes, I can't get to it. It's in the middle of a rock (it sucks up into it)....and in the middle of two acan colonies. Probably need to remount acans and discard rock.

I blocked the hole once with a large tube of super glue and a week later it started popping out....was pretty funny.

Anyone want to buy a rare anemone?

CoryDude
Fri, 26th Feb 2010, 11:06 AM
allan, I couldn't agree more with your posts about the wifey issues and the frag racks. I'm actually glad my wife limits me, because I could do a lot of damage to our bank accounts and credit cards, if she didn't. I have very little impulse control when it comes to our reef tanks.

I only see a problem with my fish selection. I wish I hadn't bought a coral beauty or a royal gramma. But, I really don't won't to tear down the tank to catch them. I wish I would have been more selective in my livestock choices.

I can live with the little bit of algae and cyano here and there. As long as they're limited to the back corners and a few small spots.

I forgot to mention lots of facts....but I already did that in another thread....I'm going to start focusing on good things in my tank. My bad streak is over from this day forward. : ))

List them out! :)

Mr Cob
Fri, 26th Feb 2010, 01:28 PM
Ok...listing them out:

Recent troubles:

-Moby the Kole Tang died because my purple and yellow tang grew up and started fighting back

-Pair of ONYX Clowns Died because I couldn't keep parameters stable in my 8g BioCube

-Quad Square Anthias split into two pairs that continued fighting and they all died within a week

-Purple Tang started eating my acans (tore my entire tank down to remove her...acans thriving again)

-large purple valida colony started bleaching badly from bottom up because of schooling chromis that took residence in the colony...increased flow...they moved out....now the bleaching has slowed (will be part of the fragging demo this weekend....as an example of how to save a coral....but that demo can't come soon enough as it's still bleaching)

-tired of topping off 15 galons a week due to a poorly designed sump

-My sump/refugium....I hate it (designing a new one which is a 55g and can't wait to add it)

-I have this bright green algae developing on the sand

-Was using bad RO/DI water and got a nice cyano breakout, but didn't realize it and did more frequent water changes with the same bad water...arghhh, took another member to wake me up...who had the same problem and shared, then I realized my problem

-Running without a skimmer because of a trade that went bad over 4 months ago, could also be the problem to some of the afore mentioned problems....I don't know

there's more...but as I mentioned, that's enough of all of that!!! So, I have listed them out now. Never to return to my tank or anyone elses that reads this!

Yes very good indeed. :) But my problem is that it is empty and I got to have the patience to let it cycle before I begin to add fish & coral.. Gonna try and do it right this time around. :)

The limitations of a single bulb halide hood. Who else here hates having a "grow zone"? That and the fact my tank is 3 times too small

Lets see, Like most I have the cyano breakout. Also have a Red Coris Wrasse that loves testing my patience and the hold ability of all super glues used to anchor down my frags. He's got a thing for my GSP frag.
