After lost all my fishes(10) but two due to flukes (found out after the fact). I decided to do thing the right way . I added too many new fishes at once and only did slow drip (45mins. to one hour) to my last group of fishes. So i will quaranteen all new fishes from now on..Below are my steps.

1. Float the bag for 30mins.

2. Slow drip for about 60mins then release fishes out of bags.

3.continue to slow drip for another 30mins.

4. got QT ready w/ HOB filter, small heater, some pvc couplings, nano powerhead, small pice of LR from DT,some cheato and filled with water from DT.

5. added new fishes into QT tank, they will be here for 5 weeks. Will treat with Prozipro after the first week and do a %50 water change and then and another dose of Prozipro after 10 days follow w/ a %50 water change. Will also try to fatten them up while in the QT.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I think the floating time might be a bit long. The only thing you want to accomplish is to equalize temp and I bet you can get that within 15-20 mins.

I don't treat fish unless they're sick. I do however really try to minimize stress for example I don't have bright lights on during acclimation and keep the main lights off for several hours after the fish are added to the tank.

Beautiful fish! I should really set up a QT, I just hate waiting to put them in the display...

That is pretty much my same regime for the most part. I also learned the hard way. :( This way you know all your fish are healthy for sure.

Giau you think 5 weeks will be ample time of leaving your tank fallow? GL Dewd.

Looks great Giau. I'm assuming ...no fish in the main system now?

If you do have fish in there now then I'm sure you know you may not be disease free..?? Also your main display needs to run fish-less for a few months (forget the actual time).

I kind of like floating the fish long too...because not only are you stabilizing the temp but you are acclimating them to their new surroundings.

Rob

I still have two fishes left,a sixline and a damsel (go figure). I can't have no fish in the DT, gotta have some poop for the sps. Am using the DT water for the QT anyway so i can test the main water too.

Karin

That how i was introduced new fishes into my system before, but some parasite won't show up til later.

Erik

I think that should be enough time if not i can go longer.

Kevin

Better do something fast and gl man. That is a bad *ss fish you have there.

Well, then you won't be disease free and your new fish that you are taking so much time to quarantine stand the chance of being infected by the current fish in the display. Such as Ich.

So, basically you are just preventing new disease from entering the system....but you are not starting out disease free. Is that the goal?

Make sense?

I hope there is nothing left in the DT, the two fishes i having in there now are fine. I've doing alot of water change lately too. I think there are always some kind of parasite and diseases in the system but atleast am preparing them to have a better chance of fighting back this time.

I agree Giau....you will definitely be increasing your chances....but there is only one way to be sure you are 100% free of parasites...

Here's a good read about this subject, written by another MAAST member:

They did not die of ich though, they die of flukes .Unless flukes and ich are the same thing.

No, but Ich is something that your fish probably have, you just don't see any signs of it. Unless you have treated for it, then they probably have it and since you are going through all of the trouble of quarantine why not do it 100% instead of 80%.

Anyways...just saying is all. 80% is better than any precautions I take. So, you still get mad props! Just wanted you to know about the other 20% in case you over looked it.

Jsut some updates...

It has been 5 days, and my two clowns are getting very active after adding some light to the QT.I will statr to feed them twice a day tomorrow, only fed them once a day in the last 5 days b/c of shipping stress(just in case). They're so active that it hards to take good pics.So far so good ,no sign of stress.
