Well, I just had too... The 12 cree xre's were nice, but nothing compared to now. I put the new led light I built in, 28 cree xpe/xpg's. 12 xpg whites, 8 xpe blues, 8 xpe royal blues. The color is much better with the royal blue leds. I'm really happy with the finish product. Now I just need to add a sump and the biocube will be done. Now for some pics.

They were growing fine under 12 led's. No lets see what 28 will do.:)

The first build was between $160-180, but this build is alot closer to $400. Overkill for sure, but why not.

yikes $400 lights for a 14g azoo tank! You're crazy! LOL
Scares me to think what that type of lighting would run on a 125...

Me too...But to make it seem alittle better, as soon as I have another tank running I plan to make the biocube a nano SPS tank.

Sad to say, but I think the 45g is going to be put aside for another tank. I'm having to hard a time to make that setup beable to do everything I want.

if i sent you my bc14 hood could you build me this setup with the 12xre's you removed? i plan to keep my zoa collection in the tank only, and maybe my duncan frags. do you think t would be enough light? also, how hard would it be to wire the leds in to the stock switches on the hood. i know i saw it done on some site, but i have no technical abilities.
also how much would it cost me?

My original setup ran right at $160-180. Plenty for zoa's, lps. I think its alittle week for a sps tank. Hooking up factory on/off switch is no problem at all, very easy job. All you have to do is break one of the 24v driver input wires. I could help if interested. Old leds are not for sell.. That is why I have a new light, I got lazy and used the factory cooling fans, power supply, etc. I knew better, but did it anyways. With that said, one of the cheap fans failed and over heated one or some of my white leds. So, why fix when I can upgrade.

FYI... You guy with converted biocubes, if your still running factory fans trash them... Right at the 3 month mark they started going bad.

That looks great! Is the heat sink getting much hotter with the additional LEDs? Roughly what % of power are you running them at?

With a temp sensor the heatsink at the led's has maxed out at 84 degrees. The whole hood feals cooling with the massive fan I put on there. I'm running a combo of 500mA and 700mA drivers. The first heatsink was 8.5" x 5" and the new one is 12" x 5.8".

Ok the old leds are fine. I over heated a driver. Im surprised the driver failed before the led's. But thats a good thing.

Interesting... I woulda thought the opposite as well.
As far as the factory fans are concerned -- I took care of that one within a week of installing my BioCube, before I had even decided on the LED's... When I got my BC8 from Chris, he told me that the fans made a horrid noise occasionally. I couldn't take it at work :) Some nice brushless PC fans from IPC took care of the problem quick :)

Stephen -- about how much brighter over the tank is this, than the 12xXPG setup was? Obviously, I'm not asking PAR -- purely a speculative, based-on-appearance, judgement of how much brighter...
