Rainbow urchins behave much in the same way as other urchins... cruise around and eat lots of algae (including coraline). I can always tell where my urchins have been the day before by the 'tracks' they leave on the rocks. The coraline usually grows right back after a day or so.

They have a brilliant colored test (or shell). It's redish with VERY bright blue dots running down the sides. It's definitely my favorite urchin!

They resemble a group of urchins called 'fire urchins' for the obvious reason of being very painful if you get stuck by thier spines... the false fire urchins may contain some toxin (I haven't felt the need to find out) but it's definitely not on the same level as their cousins.
