1 week ago i got some RO water from a NON sponsor LFS and at first i thought there was something FISHY....normally when i would get water from other LFS they would take my bucket to where ever their RO system was and pour it right into my water jugs, but they just pulled out a container from under one of the aquariums and funneled it into my jug. didn't think much of it but the next day i got a visit from my old friend

cyanobacteria.

been doing water changes and already im seeing it go away little by little everyday....

moral of the story.

Don't buy anything you feel fishy about....even fish

when you do it make sure your using sterile pee cups or something like that ... i know when i rinse a cup in the sink and than use it to see what my TDS is it reads alot higher compared to pee cups ( its commonsense but something that can easily be over looked)

I have one you can borrow too.

As noted above, it doesn't take much to contaminate a sample. I tested rainwater a couple of months ago - after running off our roof - and it was 10.

i have grabbed a glass of the dishwasher(clean) and put ro/di and got 10, then dumped it out rinsed it a couple times with ro\di water then filled and checked it and it then read 1, so really doesnt take much

That's funny that you brought this up....because I've been picking up about 25gallons a week at...........I'M certain it's the same place you described and I have been noticing cyano on my sand too....

I bet this is the reason for the unwanted cyano popping up. I've been scratching my head about it for a few weeks now.

Thanks for posting.

Dang, I really need to get an RO unit already!

Sweet, thanks...I'll be picking up those baffles this weekend for my new sump so when you cut them for me :) I'll bring some of that water by.

I'll be in touch once I have everything...
