Thanks the Ace, I'm now setting up a brine shrimp hatchery. I'm starting with the traditional san francisco bay brand hatchery kit. Once everything is going good, I will order some better stuff. This seem to be a pretty straight foward setup, but if anyone has any info to share please do. Hopefully I will have some good news tomarrow evening.

This is an easy DIY project. You would only need to order cysts. You would need an empty 2 or 3 liter bottle, cut the bottom off. Then get a 3/4 or 1/2 in hose barb and silicone it in the top end of the bottle. Buy about 4-6 feet of vinyl tubing to fit the hose barb you got and 1 hose clamp and you'l almost be ready to go...just a stand for it. You can make it out of wood, or if you're cheap and lazy like me, a cardboard box. Been using it for several months, no problems at all. I'll eventually make a nicer stand, but it is functional for the time being. I will try to post picks tomorrow (can't today)...It shouldn't cost more than 10$ to make, probably less.

it would be tougher not to have them hatch. I used equipment that had brine it it 6 months before for phyto and I still had brine hatch.
You'll do just fine :)

Hey Steve, pretty sure you read it already but just in case. I used to have the sea monkeys when I was a kid and this idea of fresh food is getting me interested more and more.

Just a quick note. Newly hatched BBS have limited nutritional value and are very low in DHA. If you grow them out for 24 hours they develop a mouth, change little in diameter and elongate. At this point they can be enriched with T. iso, nanno, tetraselmis, Vitachem, Algamac, etc. Depending upon what you are feeding you will need to determine what enrichments you would want to use. It is possible to significantly modify the nutritional value of the BBS with additives, thus enhancing coral growth, fry survival, etc.

Brine Shrimp Direct.com probably has the largest variety to choose from, fosterandsmith, premium aquatics, amazon, etc. all sell them.

I learned from the same place as you my friend....it functions quite well, down to the cardboard box stand!

I don't want to hijack this thread too much but I've been toying with the idea of setting up a hatchery of some sort. I have two 100 gallon stock tanks, one I'm currently curing LR in and the other is not being used for anything. I was considering plumbing them together and using them for something. I think they'd be overkill for brine but does anyone have any creative ideas? I'd love to hear them!
