Yes, I know what FOWLR means, but...

Mike talked me into setting up this 75g FOWLR he wanted and it's gotten a good start, been up and running about a month (used established rock, sand, etc.) and now has its first fish in it. He has plans for a few fish that are not compatible with our reef, such as a small trigger, and the dwarf angels are moving over from the big tank. The problem is that I am so used to the beauty of a reef that the live rock just looks dull to me.

I was hoping to add a little color by throwing in some corals that fish do not eat. So far I have moved over a piece of cap and a couple of our indestructible neon green fuzzy mushrooms. We have some other colorful mushrooms that I could add too, just hoping for a bit of color to jazz things up. What else could I try? GSP? Any suggestions?

i would say depending on the fish would depend on the coral. or put what ever you like but make it CHEAP incase they eat it

xenia is great cause it grows like a weed and if they eat it no biggie

I had a 158G FOWLR that had corals. I tried alot of different ones, but the the two that were successful were GSP and Xenia. The mushrooms were all eaten, more than 3 dozen on different rocks. The SPS frags I experimented with died, I think because of the larger fish creating more nitrates. But the GSP and Xenia did very, very well.

Yeah, xenia is a good idea. I find the pulsing amazing (have you ever watched a xenia frag pulse away in a ziploc bag?) and it would not matter if it tried to take over the planet in there.

Know anything that will eat the inexpensive mushrooms? Think that is a safe bet?

Don't stock a Puffer if you want to stock mushrooms. Puffer owners sometimes feed mushrooms to picky eating puffers that are new to an aquarium. mine ate more than 3 dz.

I think you have a better bet adding the coral you want First. If it goes in after the trigger, well.... they are curious little boogers and will pick at new arrivals. Pardon the Pun
