View Full Version : I want a moonlight!

I really like my light fixture. It's an ATI sunpower and it's suspended from the ceiling. Great T5 fixture but no moonlights.
I don't have a canopy (don't want one either)
I like how I can swing it back a bit if I need to reach in or adjust it up for major stuff.
So I really don't want to put another strip light fixture behind it.
But I do want moonlights so I can feed the Acans without startling the crab by turning on the room light...

Has anybody used these Coralife suction on moonlights?:

Do they work well? How many would I need on a 6ft tank?
Any other suggestion?

Karin, I want moonlights too, but what I use for my mid morning lps feeding schedule is a small pen light. Of course my large tang and spongebob uses it as a feeding spotlight and I often have to move around to keep them guessing.

...waiting for the neighbors to call the police when they see the flashlight moving round the rooms.

Lol. Reminds me of Firewater and his miner's hat...
I'll check out the aquatraders link.
Thanks!

Okay I saw this listing on aquatraders:
http://shop.aquatraders.com/Odyssea-32in-Bluemoon-LED-p/56102.htm
No description and no picture...
Do other vendors sell this so I can see a pic or read a description? I couldn't find it doing a websearch...

Jack, how does that mount? Hard to tell from the pic. Looks fancy.

I use Hagen Marina micro led lights. Much smaller than the coralife aqualight. It's not very fancy, but it got a cool effect for relatively cheap. One ballast can support 3 lights. Each light is one bulb with swivel adjustment and suction cup. It comes in different colors, but I have all blue. 6 lights on a four foot tank, and it looks sweet. With it split between two ballasts I've set it up to have a them come on and go off slowly. If I swivel it all the way up so the bulb is above the water, the light moves like clouds passing.

(I also have a headlamp with red bulb for covert spying on my nocturnal critters...)

The light Jack posted I actually have. It mounts underwater, but the LEDs are very directional.

If you had a canopy, I would suggest *twinkling* christmas lights. I have some blue rope light that I was using as well. That was too bright though.

Karen,

I bought this fixture and love it. It is very light weight and comes with the double sided magnetic sticky tape. I just stuck it to the top of my tank between the T5 light bars I have. You can even buy a control to set it to 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or full moon.

This is what it looks like from the top of my tank.

Hm... lots of choices.
Does anybody have pics of theirs? Chris? Stephen? Erik? Tim?

I got moonlights!
In the end I went with these wide angle LED tubes:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260575039931&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

My ATI fixture has angled sides so I jsut attached the tubes to the back of the ATI fixture (outside) and have them angle slightly forward.
As expected it leaves the very edge of the 6ft in the dark but otherwise illuminates it well enough for future spying. :)

I saw some 1 watt led moonlights at Mike Delgado's house that were insane looking (finnex lights from aqu cave). Though he put something in my drink. I'm getting six strips for my new system.

I have one of these and they work great on my 90. Need to get 2 more since they are linkable.

I saw these! They had good reviews. I just don't have a canopy and wanted something that could attach either to the pendant or the side of the aquarium so the skinny tube of wide angles worked out perfect. Can't tell they're there until they turn on.
Since I have such a pretty light fixture I didn't want anything klutzy to distract from the clean look. :)
