Am I the only one who gets irritated by people who register on MAAST, then when they don't read the rules for posting in certain forums, they start complaining about it in their first and only posts? Then while complaining about MAAST and it's rules, they insult the POTM contest/participants, and insult other long standing members by calling them morons? And then to top it off the mods let that newbie get away with calling said person a moron and lock the thread at that newbie's request before allowing a response? I guess since the newbie doesn't read the rules, the rule about insulting/attacking other members doesn't pertain to them either.

Chris,

I did think it was quite rude to insult the POTY winner like that and I read the 'moron comment' and thought it was immature and offensive as well.
It seems like there would be at least a few reef clubs in Texas and if this one doesn't meet somebody's needs they could perhaps find one that more closely fits their style?
Not sure what to tell you but I am sorry you got the response that you got.

 Give the mods a minute to do what needs to be done.

Chris,

I am sympathetic to your frustration. Slandering remarks from any member towards any member is not allowed and is dealt with according to our terms of use and bylaws. Thank you for your concerns.

*Yawn* Goodnight folks.

FYI.. I've been viewing the forum for over a year. I just decided to "sign up" a little while ago.
I AM in the COMMENTS, QUESTIONS, and, SUGGESTIONS area of the forum, and that is what I was doing in here.. asking questions, making suggestions, and comments.

You people are no worse by PMing me insulting remarks just so you don't get caught.

Euromom is calling me Immature.. I'm sure that breaks the same rules as calling
someone a moron. If it doesn't then someone is biased.

I can see how helpful you people are here. It makes me feel welcome.

Thanks, but you don't have to be sorry, wasn't your fault. And the moron comment didn't hurt my feelings, more upset by the overall attitude expressed by the person. Especially from someone who just joined the site today and chose to have their first posts be all negative. I do agree that sometimes Maast just isn't perfect for every person out there (just can't please everyone all the time), nice thing like you said is that there are other options out there. Hopefully this person will either learn to participate positively here or find another site that meets his specific standards.

The immature statement was directed towards an action and not a person. Please understand the difference. There is no possible way for everyone to get a long at all times, however..... we can choose not to pay mind to those we don't agree with.

So why did you even say what you did then?

If you have truly been viewing the site for over a year as you state, then you would know that this club is incredibly helpful, full of knowledge and friendly people. You should also know by now that the club and website have certain rules that have been in place for a long time for specific reasons, they weren't created the instant you decided to post just to annoy you. You should also know that those rules get enforced and negative attitudes/comments/insults don't get you very far, here or anywhere for that matter. I'm not sure how you expected help and a warm welcome based on your comments and blatent negative attitude right from the start.

It takes two to tango and you started the first dance off by stepping on everyone's feet! Relax, participate (in a positive manner) in some of the other discussions in the other sections, and I'm sure your experience here will greatly improve. It is a good club with lots of helpful people and information.

Ok, so now let's all take a deep breath, and exhale. :)

Hey, it was past my bed time when I typed that! Yes, I blatantly forgot to use spell checker! I actually forgot that spell checker is there above the Smiles box, I'm so used to my Outlook running it automatically.

Just as an aside to all of this -- I'd like to point out something that Bill Streep touched on in the other threads: the hosting issue.

Hosting is cheap, when you're running a small static webpage with very little changing content.... a web forum is very far from that. Seeing as hosting is my bread-and-butter, I know a thing or two about hosting larger-scale databases. While we may not be to the size of ReefCentral here, we get well in excess of 100+ posts a day, all containing the necessary metadata that has to be linked into all the running components of the webpage. On top of that, there's at least 3 times as many people browsing anonymously at any given time, as there are logged in.... thats a lot of data moved. While the fees aren't going to be in the thousands of dollars per month (as would be expected at, say, ReefCentral) -- the usage here is not zero, and the feasibility of running as active a forum as this is off a home residential cable modem is not high.

Just a little perspective for what the costs of hosting a large and active domain is...

After reading the original op's posts, the argument seems to be brought up that only those that have paid a "fee" receive help from this club. On the contrary, if you look in the emergency forum and other sections, web members receive an incredible amount of help from this site.

I kind of feel like Rick James just walked into my house and stomped his muddy boots all over my brand new couch.

as phtography is a part of this hobby its not a major part. I was a web member for a longtime before becoming a charter member, as there are no major differrence i just wanted to support the club that has helped me grow as a reef keeper. i know i would not be as succesful as i am without the great help this forum provides, it helps that this is local and alot of people will make time to go personaly help a fellow member, charter or not. i believe alot of other large forums have rules on what members can and cant do, based on either post numbers or if you have payed dues. so why complain when the rules are clearly posted.

I thought of and actually wrote 2 really detailed and long responses to the other 2 threads, but the first thread was closed before I got to post and I deleted the 2nd one before posting it.
I have come to realize that you cannot and will not please everyone. It is a shame that some folks might have a lot to offer, but choose to be above all others. I also cannot believe that I wasted my time, time that I cannot get back by the way, to become frustrated by a nonparticipant in the game of life. You give then you get to take.

I for one, Chris believe 100% in your thoughts and share your frustration as I am sure several others do as well. I can gladly say that this is my abbreviated version of the story and I am now done with the subject.
