I would like to see more pics of less traditional tanks with oddball stuff in it.

Was talking to clone this weekend and I think his stocking idea is wonderful. Can't wait to see pics of his new tank in progress. I think it will be really beautiful.

It also sounds like Shagman is collecting some really nice stuff as well.
So where's the picture of those tanks with less traditional stuff? I want to see them!

Hopefully Jordan will chime in here, once he's back in San Antonio... He's found some great examples of non-traditional tanks in his seemingly never-ending quest to determine the perfect biotopic tank... He's sent me some pretty cool ones, but all the links are on my computer at work..

This idea may or may not be considered less traditional, but I always thought it would be cool to do a one or two coral species only tank. I came close to doing a euphyllia only tank. I think that would look awesome. Or a mushroom only tank. We've seen SPS only(tank full of pretty sticks), and they are great don't get me wrong.

Yes! Anything from the ordinary and preferably local would be great. I think a mushroom tank would be great. :)

My 180 is turning into a bubble tip anemone tank. As of now it has 7 anemones all different colors. Although there are still some I would like to find(green with orange tips and a few rare ones). I would post more pics but quite a few are small at this point plus my camera and/or operator suck.lol

If I had it to do all over again, I would have a large tank with single massive colony of something colorful. I picture a whole tank filled with bright yellow zoanthids or polyps.

Unfortunately zoas are the one thing I can't grow at all. Not a single one survives, ever.

Wow. That is weird John. I wonder why?
I am currently trying to get more and more sun corals. I just love them and they seem to do well in my tank.
I also like gorgonians and very small fish (which happen to like gorgonians! lol)
A 125 gallon tank without a single tang. :D

I still have other corals as well but in the long run I want to focus on:
- small fish
- non photosynthetics such as sun corals, etc.
- Gorgonians
- Sponges

There is a beautiful BTA and clown tank featured on RC. Have you ever seen it? I like this. Good luck.

Wow...haven't seen that one yet. The one I speak of is similar, but bigger and with GBTA and 20 something clowns.

Yes Moberts tank is nice and I like it alot more than the above tank as it is planned out nicely. She uses current to keep her bubble tips under control. The above one looks like it is out of control. My anemone tank will eventually end up with anemone islands. The thing is that I think I will set up a smaller cube(60 gallons or so) so I can still keep my reef tank a reef.

There is one tank that I had to be all over, all the time. That 48, was not it. :D

Karin If I had realized that was you when I walked into Reefs 2 U on Saturday I would have introduced myself.

I like the idea of odd ball tanks. Ive alway wanted to do a Texas coast tank although some may think that would be boring. Local anemones and a bunch or sargent majors would be neat to me.

Different? Really? Isn't that what all of your tanks look like? For a second there I thought you had put in a photo of mine.... yeah, right! :)

Took me a while to find this post but here I go.

This one is one of the most amazing tanks I have ever seen. It's put together by a guy living in the Philippines who collected all of his tanks livestock out of the ocean himself. His stated goal is to create as accurate of a biotope as possible.

The diversity of life he is able to get from living out there is just insane --for example he has a symbiotic crab for every piece of coral in the tank.

It's gorgeous.

Next one is a sun coral dominated NPS tank.

These next two are of Eric Borneman's personal tank.

I quite like macro algea in the display tank, especially if you're going more for the patch reef type look. I have a lot of halmeda growing in mine. I would also love to see a Caribbean sea wall done like this. (May be a project i undertake at some point.)

Mix some gorgonions in there and it would look great.

There isn't much macro algae in those tanks though --It's mostly true sea grasses.

WOW the sun coral tank is amazing!
Just came across this one --Apparently that tank went through a big upgrade.

I'd be okay with Halimeda. It's the caulerpa that's getting to me.
Very cool idea with the sea wall.
