View Full Version : Argh - don't like my tank!

I've been accummulating stuff (got my last order in today) and now that the tank is pretty full I don't like it!
It's such a hodge podge of stuff. I wish I had some sort of theme or direction when I started this.
Blech all this time, money and effort and it's not even looking good!

Time for a tank makeover! I love re-aquascaping... maybe you just need to rearrange a bit?

Too late. I got a boatload of big stuff today and now it's all over the place!
And reef putty s****! Wasted all morning trying to get stuff to stick.
I really should have stopped when I said "I'm done".
I still liked it then. :(
I'll take a FTS once the reef putty cloud settles...
Maybe I need to get more blue bulbs so at least I don't have to see it all!

I personally think tanks w/ a few grown out/ large pieces looks nicer than a hundred rainbowed colored ones. I've found that I enjoy my coral more when I have fewer. I am able to pay attention to each one's behavior and detail as opposed to a full tank where my eyes are easily distracted.

I don't know where to stick that sea fan. It's so one dimensional. I can't find a good place for it. It should be in the background but then it wouldn't get the flow it needs...

I also think the tank looks good.
Trust me when I say ive been there. Im really good at aquascaping to, but I have those days you are having now.
For example- I get a new coral so I move one rock then another and all of a sudden its just out of wack and I wished I would have never touched it to begin with because its never going to look that way again.....
A lot of your feelings just stem from frustration, so relax and come back later.
Id say let it clear up and let it stay this way for a few days to see if it grows on you. If not change it around then.

I am going to get me some tubes of super glue and tweak it a bit over the weekend.
I think I might in fact need one more coral to go in front of that sea fan. ;)
It's not that bad.
And the gorgonians really are pretty cool.
That big cream colored one in the right corner will need some getting used to, too...

so the order from aquacon worked out ? did you get the same thing you wanted with same color and all ??
Europhyllia
Fri, 15th Jan 2010, 04:28 PM
Nope. I didn't order the sea fan that I can't figure out where to put. ;) LOL
I ordered a purple ribbon gorgonian instead and didn't get that. So that got switched around.
I also ordered two candelabra gorgonians and they are both doing great. And I got a spiny oyster which is also doing great. The cream colored thing on the right is a golden sea rod. I ordered and received that correctly as well. :) So that makes it 4 out of 5 correct and in decent shape.

Woman to Woman Karin, I feel your pain! :)
I totally understand what you are going through. I went through the same transition when we had our 125.
We liked it, then we didnt, then when we moved everything around including the rock, it got much more worse that I cried out of fustration. lol
I am with RayAllen, let it settle down, clear up and see if after a couple days it grows on you! :) Mine did! And I never messed with it until we sold it and upgraded to our 240. Then quess what it happened again...lol
ps. we had no theme to go by...

Is that that spiny oyster from Gabes down on the bottom left?
Europhyllia
Fri, 15th Jan 2010, 04:40 PM
Nope I resisted the spiny oyster from Gabes and let Ace buy it. But then I still was intrigued with it a few days later and ordered one. (Since I am culturing and dosing lots of phyto now I thought it would be not completely unresponsible to own one)

Karin...that FTS you posted is rocking! I love the depth your reef appears to have. I agree about the putty just frustrating you....
Great work!

Thanks so much for letting me know I am not the only one that goes through that : "Love it, hate it stage"
Now my sweet clams seem to not want to open all the way. First time for them to do that ever.
Shucks. I hope I didn't introduce something harmful with the oyster. I am usually good about quarantining new fish but I didn't think of setting up a QT for the oyster. :(

Okay I am over it. I love my new gorgs now. They all have their polyps open and are doing great. I am really starting to like the one that I didn't order.
Clams are back to normal. Oyster looks happy. Epoxy dust has settled.
I'll pick up a new stick at Reefs2u today and rearrange a tiny bit.
Will never use Giesemann epoxy again. They really should stick to making bulbs...

I swapped the gorgs around some more and it seems all but one are pretty happy in their new location.
If they're happy, I am happy too. I also added more sun corals which raised my happiness level even more. lol. Maybe I should have just filled the 125g with sun corals...

It's all good ow. I'm okay with my tank again :)
Still worried about the blueberry gorg but I knew that one would be a challenge. I'd feel a lot better if at least once I'd see it with polyps completely open.

What Trimmas? LOL
I can only find one (I know where he likes to hang out). He's getting fat though.
I am hoping to see the others soon as well.
I finally found my Emerald crabs again too! In a tank with that much rock it's just easy to hide
