Here's a pic. The dimensions are 15" x 13-5/8" x 6". I forgot to mention there are two built in timers that work excellently. Timers can also be turn off if you have a controller.

Can a lower watt bulb be used instead?

First off why take step down rather then a step up. As far as MH lights go, no. It would blow the bulb unless you ran it with a different ballast which would require seriously modding the light. Every thing is contained in the fixture. As far as PC, I dont know.

Well, if I used it for my solana it might make it too hot. A lower watt bulb would fit it well enough.

This light is actually and typically sold with Solana setups. I had it on my 29g biocube and worked quite well. The highest my tank temp got was 80 during the summer.
