Would rather borrow or steal, but will settle for purchase if the price is right (see begining of sentence). :)
I have to tear down my tank for about three days and need a holding area for my coral and fish during the tiling of my library room. I have a 32 gallon brute trash can and about three five gallon buckets. So that's about 47 gallons of a 300 gallon system. I'm a bit overwhelmed to say the least.

Hey allan this is what I did and I probably have some equipment you could use if you need it. I bought a couple rubbermaid tubs (45 gallon) from walmart. I then kept all my live stock/rock in those. I would just use a hang on filter, a k4, and a heater. I dont know how long it will take to retile but you ought to be able to get away with a week or two in those. Kevin(clone) also told me and this has proved to be true that the plastic containers cool down alot more than glass so dont put in a small heater if you can help it.

cool. I plan on heading over to one of the feed and seed places this afternoon, or grabbing a few from Home Depot. I'm thinking that I'd like to keep at least 200 gallons of my old water. Else I'll have a delta between replacing it and making new.... or I might just empty the brute and refill the brute, and then empty the brute, and the refill the brute until I have enough water to reintroduce the fish and coral.

Allan I have the heaters that you gave me at the December meeting along with quite a few more that were donated to the club. Any thing that you need, I'd be glad to bring over.

We probably have a brute we can spare for the water and two very ordinary not-too-special tubs for spreading out the coral, plus a couple of Koralias. Call us when you decide what you need.

I have a 65g, plastic barrel if you need it. BTW this would be a good time to do any change to the tank..

Allan, PM me if you need any help durring this process...like man power. Of course you would have to kneel if we carry anything together... haha!
I'd be happy to help in any way possible.
I have a 55gallon tank/sump with a couple of baffles in it that you could borrow, I do not plan on setting it up for another couple of weeks. I got it from Julian. Could be useful for some of the corals.

Allan,
I have an operating 215 gallon system, with NOTHING in it. I haven't tested it in a while, but it's running - and I could easily make sure it's ok. If you need space, it's there, and I'm about 10 minutes from you.

Bill, that's very generous. I've already taken measures too get my lights in a position where I can support them over a tub to keep the lights on the corals and I'm only looking at two days. But wow, that's very generous offer and you're right that would have been easy just bringing my stuff over there.

How is that going to work Rob? You're offering help, but then you mention manpower.... :) Hey, on Friday I need some extra backs around 10 to 11. That's the time I plan on pulling the aquarium out and into the living room. What do you say?
I've actually got a hundred gallon tank and another 55 gallon tank in the basement. Too heavy but will serve in a pinch. I like the idea of the plastic tubs since they move so easily.

Kristy,
I can definitely use the two tubs. I'm thinking that I will have enough flow with the two K4s that I have, but if you want to bring one of yours by as well for added protection... better safe than sorry.
Jack,
I've got three heaters that I use with the current setup. I'm thinking that I should be good, but I'm also thinking I can get all the coral into one tub. Yeah, I can probably use a heater or two. Did you have a container?
I plan on pulling out the coral and most of the water on Thursday night and get the temporary storage running. Then Friday morning I plan on taking apart the pipes and finishing off the last of the water and sand so that we can move the tank around 10 to 11.
Geez, I really hate having to do this. But it will make it easier to make some changes. I plan on making a new stand to keep the tank higher during the 24 hour wait for the mortor to set and cure.

Wow you must want that tile floor pretty bad! I have troughs but they'd have to be scrubbed down pretty good.

Allan...if you are talking about this Friday...I'll be in a hotel in Corpus dude! Be back Sunday though and can make myself available any evening during the week.
I take it you won't be at the meeting this weekend?

Allan,
Be SURE you check those heaters beforehand. I bought a handful of old heaters for my teardown project last year, and got surprised by a couple that wouldn't shut off...

Not a basement, just what I call it. My house is built on an incline and because of that my garage is a full flight of stairs below the rest of the house.
The three heaters I'm using on my system now do turn off. But I do have one heater that does not turn off and that was a lesson I learned the hard way.
Firewater, I would like to use your brute... but driving out to cibolo may not be cost effective opposed to buying one at HD. I think I can get by with one trough to hold the coral and my lights suspended over it. If I have to place stuff in another trough or bucket I won't have light for it.
I think the anenomies are going to be the hardest to care for during this transition. My head hurts.
And at the risk of this sounding like a how to thread,
1. Wednesday empty room of furniture and other things that are in there (boxes and hunting supplies/bag).
2. Thursday set up interim tanks with tank water, corals, livestock and rock. Fully drain tank. This will be in the evening after I return from defending the constititution against all enemies both foriegn and domestic. So if I have enough time I will want to fully drain tank and fuge, and dis-assemble the piping beneath the tank.
1. Friday morning (which I now realize is the same weekend of the CC trip) I will finish up all loose ends and my boss and a few others will be at the house around 10-11 to help lift and carry the tank out to the living room. I will then work on getting the stand, fuge and all associated equipment out of the library and begin with the actual work of tearing up my newly purchased home.

Allan-
Now I can tell that you are just looking for an excuse to go see Firewater's stunning tank... because when I offered to DROP OFF our 32g brute for you to store some extra water in, you showed no interest at all in that!
Seriously, should I bring the brute too when I drop off the tubs?
-Kristy
PS: Wow... pull everything out of your tank on the same day that you defend the constititution against all enemies both foriegn and domestic. That's a pretty TALL order!

I don't have any storage containers other than a 30 gal glass tank.
I'm not goint to make it to the Corpus Christi trip either so if you need help Friday after 5 or Saturday afternoon, I can help.

Actually Kristy I would like to use your brute as well. I honestly didn't expect this much of a response and have been crossing messages back and forth. I would never say no to a free drop off for those tubs and brute.
I have a trough like bucket that Ordinarily keeps my x-mas lights that I plan on using as well.
Jack, appreciate the offer. I'm not sure I'll be ready to carry the tank back in on Saturday though. If I can lay the tile by two or three on Friday then I would be ready late saturday to start moving stuff back in... but a more realistic time line would have me doing it on Sunday with final tweaking on Monday.
There are no enemies of our consitution foreign and domestic on the weekends, and as luck would have it this is a four day for those of us like me. :)

Looks like a DIY thread in the making here.

I don't mind dropping off at your house or meeting half-way with my Brute if you want to borrow it. If you need it the Koralia can make the trip too since you are using extra tubs. I have a 4 day weekend so if you need manpower or help moving stuff around let me know about that also.

Will do guys. Appreciate the offers. Right now I think I have to determine how many folks I have coming over on Friday to move the tank. Cibolo is quite a drive just to help someone move a tank twenty feet though.
Man, I hate doing this. My fish are going to hate me.

Ok, cleaned out the room. The only thing in there is the tank and fish and coral.
Tonight I will move the water and livestock into the hotel del tuppleware. I would love to get it all over there and situated and if I don't take the pipes off tonight my first order of business in the morning will be to take them off.
I can use some help moving the tank around 10am to 11am. I've got one buddy coming over and I'm thinking that will not be enough. Probably about 20 minutes of work. I can have coffee and donuts at the ready if anyone is interested. LMK
Man I hate doing this. PM me for my addy if you're interested in lending a hand.

Thanks stanchris.... but to tell the truth I may have had a moment of weakness. I've got two heaters in each trough that has coral or fish in it. I've been working and so my body temp is up, when I put my arm into the water it seems real cold. and my ever so trusty digital cheepy thermos are telling me that the water is at 71 degrees, but my mercury glass tells me its around 77.
I just, I hope, had a moment of doubt.
But it's too bad because milly has been helping me with the move....
