Has anybody thought about the long term effects of a wave for those of us with wooden stands? I guess I am paranoid, but I think of water going back and forth causing weight and pressure shifts on the tank and stand.
I would love a wavebox. However, I'm scared. I like my reef tank excatly where it is. I don't want a reef floor.

I think they're pretty sturdily built.
I don't want to jinx myself but people (myself included) even cut huge holes into the side to put in new bigger sumps so I would think a small water displacement like that (just 2 inches max) would be something they could easily cope with (especially if you didn't cut a big hole in it in the first place! :D

LOL KARIN...
I also agree that the tanks/stands can handle it long term.

I have heard/read that some of the time older tanks need silicone repair after about 5-7 years of a wave maker but never the stand having issues. Wave makers have been around for a while though.

Big risk Big reward:bigsmile:...j/k.. I would not have any wave action in my tank b/c of large cube shape and rimless/trimless ,but never heard of OP having problems with a wavebox.

I have had a tunze wavebox on my 150g for over two years and it doesn't seem to affect the wood stand at all.

I had one till recently and it was awesome. I don't miss the space it took up, but I sure do miss the action within the tank.
You're good dude, remember it only has to last till 2012. :)

The tunze guys were at TMAC last year with a wave box set up. they told me the stresses of the waves WOULD take 3-5 years off the life of the tank. lots of dynamic stress on thoses tank seams.

What is the life of a tank? Some places offer lifetime warranties.

If I remember correctly, they said a typical large tank (90 and up?) should go 15 yrs, so count on 10-12 with the wavemaker.
Any more experienced reefers out there want to chime in on the typical life expectancy of a tank?
