I have a flametail blennies that keeps pickin at my clam so i want to get rid of the blenny.
I have to much work to start taking it out so thats out of the question.
The blenny is also very shy so i cant get near it.
Any ideas on how to catch it?

I don't know who as them at the present time but there are some fish traps floating around maast. These are not the soda bottle type of trap.

I had a similar problem and the first thing I did was make a clam cage out of egg crate but...you said blenny so that might not be an answer for you since they are so slim. Mine was to keep a coral beauty out.
-invert the top of a 1 liter bottle with food in it and tie fishing line to it and pull out when desired fish goes in
-food in net trick
-bait and hook with small brine shrimp hook only if fish is large enough
-use two nets
-get a stick and a net and chase him down
-tear your reef apart and scoop him up

You could try this until you can meet up with Ace, his fish trap has worked many times.

You can do what worked for Erik (ScorpiNO). :) He sold us the rock that his flame-tail blenny liked to hide in, diverting our attention from the completely hidden blenny by emphasizing the nice cap and RBTA on this rock. Then Erik was free of his little pest and the stupid stowaway came to our tank to promptly kill our clam, pick at other corals, and bites my hand when I'm in the tank! I have named him Osama because he is impossible to get, hides in our rocks, and terrorizes everything and everybody.
We are working with a borrowed fish trap, originally made by hobogato, but Osama is far too clever. Will let you know if we are ever able to flush him out successfully.

Let me know what works, I got a "flipper" that needs to go from my tank. He was removed from another tank witht the same fish trap so I think he's to smart to be recaught with the same fish trap.

did you catch it yet? Does he have a hiding place? I have done this with cichlds before and it worked but saltwater fish seem to be much quicker and more agile. If he has a hiding place I put a red net (the ones supposedly "invisible" to fish. Imho they do work better but are not invisible") in front of his favorite hiding place during the day when he is out and about. a while later when all thefish are comforatable I just scared him and he swam right in. lol
I don't know what your tank looks like it may be way to nice to do this, again I did this with cichlids, no corals in freshwater haha. just my 2cents
also try a small hook haha

Ace built a Fish Trap that worked great in getting our cleaner wrasse out of the tank. If it's OK with ACE you can pick the trap up at my house.

Kristy, that is so funny. Tell you what, how about I get a couple of my Army buddies to help, a couple of marines to make us coffee while we search and a few Air Force guys to make some coffee cakes while me and the boys go in to look for Erik's Osama Blenny Bama?

I just got a little yellow goby out of my tank two nights ago after trying for two weeks. My trick is that I did it at night and shinned a big flashlight in it's eye's. He was blinded and confused and it was an easy grab with the net.
Be careful if you use a bb gun; you don't want to crack the glass. j/k

Nice of you to offer to help. Osama Bin Hidin' is a high priority capture at this point. I took the liberty of asking around here at Randolph and it looks like the Air Force guys won't be available to help this time with the coffee cakes. They are all playing golf that day, but might be able to stop by after if any coffee and cake are left!
