better than ugly frag disc

well i dont like frag disc but sometimes they are a the easiest things you got.
i decided to try to un-ugly them. what do you think. (just took a pair of old wire cutters and chipped away) please excuse the mushrooms they are newly attatched and a little stressed

If you're going to be doing a lot of this, consider getting a pair of tile nippers - they bite through frag plugs quite nicely.

yea. i have some of the nippers but mine are a little too big. need to find a smaller pair.

thanks Mr Cob. now all i need to do is chip all of them and throw them in the sump for a few weeks and pull them out as i need them. then they will look more like real rocks.

Some times I'll also glue live rock rubble to mine...but very small pieces...I'll break up a piece of live rock with a hammer... that works great too.

i let mine sit in my tank awile before i frag so they grow some coraline on them, then three days before i frag i pull the out and let them dry. im gonna try your method too

well, I think breaking the edges as you have done is great and i will use that along with glueing small pieces of live rock rubble to the plug. The glued pieces makes for a more natural growth pattern as the coral covers the plug/disc...instead of just flat matts.

I really like your idea. I really hate how most frags come on plugs now. I miss the good ol days when frags used to come on rock rubble.

Sherry, ID: Snforka... removes all her frags from the plugs and glues them to rubble when she gets them. I got a large stash of them from her last time we talked.

The plugs are perfect for me because I have a foam background and I just push them into the foam...makes mounting easy for a lot of my corals.

i made alot of small frag rocks out of portland cement and arogonite
