JBJ Artica Chiller 1/10th (with pump) up to 130 gallon. I have friend that has one on his 185 and works fine. The pump is a Tunze Silent 1074. I purchased this chiller new in August of 2009. I have the box and paper work. Upgrading to a 1/4 cause i have a closed canopy and ALOT of light(like 1100w). $300. Jeremy 512-971-1925

JT, I know you didn't mean to be rude, but "offroadodge" isn't a novice by any stretch when it comes saltwater setups. Just because he only has a few posts on our wonderful site, opposed to some people who post just to make it seem like they actually know what they are talking about :shades:, doesn't mean he is a noobie.
Remember, never judge experience by the number of posts a person has.

It sounded like JT was judging the performance of the equipment more by hp than by the number of posts?

I don't think he really meant to threadcrap - it's just that when you review JBJ's chiller calculator:

http://the.dataconcepts.com/jbjlighting/prod-arctica-chiller-size.asp

It says you need a 1/2 hp chiller for 180 gallon tank, 1100 watts of lighting, no sump, no pumps, 2 degrees of chilling.

75 gallons, 300w of lighting, 2 degrees: 1/5 hp.

Of course, we all understand that chiller makers ARE trying to sell chillers...

You may indeed be correct, but the original post stated that it was for up to 130 gallons, as well as stating that he has a friend that has the same chiller on a 185. Don't get me wrong, a 1/10 on a 185 is probably pushing that little chiller to the seams and then some. :whew:
Sorry for the extracurricular activity, Good luck with the sale. Welcome to MAAST!

Just ran a calculation, assuming the JBJ number of 1485 BTU. In a PERFECT world, that will chill 90 gallons 2 degrees in 1 hour.

Offroadodge was talking about my tank, I have a 1/10 plumbed into my system but it never kicks on. The chiller would only kick on if my tank temp hits 80 degrees. I'm running 2 400's and 2 220 watts VHO's on my 180. My lights come on at 8am and shut off at 3pm. I also have a open canopy and a fan blowing on straight down. So my temp never exceeds 79 degrees even in the summer months.
