I always steered away from Bangaiis because of their high mortality rate. My only experience w/ cardinal fish was my girlfriend's PJ that hid in a back corner, regardless of how peaceful the tank mates were. I got a Bangaii this weekend from Kyle46N and am amazed at how well adjusted he has been.

When I introduced him he went straight to my sailfin's home. The sailfin shooed him out, of course. Well, The next day the Sailfin decided they were best friends despite Bangaii carrying a grudge. After trying for a couple days to get rid of the Sailfin they are now everywhere together.... including hovering in the front of the tank! Woot! :bighug: And boy does he eats like a Pig.

Awesome!
PS: Your GF's PJ may feel more comfy with a buddy or two.

True. And I had given it some thought but they grow fast and space is an issue in a 20L. I was more referring to their tendency too be shy/ spook easily. The PJ has become well adjusted over time.... but nothing like this new guy! :)

For me with the PJs it's the non movement that's so stunning!
It's amazing how a small group can be completely still in front of a 1500 gph Seio.
The Bangaii's are very cool though. They're mouthbrooders. Maybe try for a pair?

Yes I love how still they can be. The mouth brooding would be awesome to watch. From my limited reading, it's near impossible to sex them and two males results in fighting. That's not something I am willing to risk.

Yes, I can understand that. One happy one is better than two miserable ones.
Do a search though on here. One member had a spawning pair and took a video of it and posted it not too long ago. That was pretty neat. :)
